NTLDR is Missing? XP Problem.

Postby Qwedgeonline » Mon Apr 04, 2011 3:53 pm

Since many of the users here are Windows XP savvy, I figured I could get an answer here. I downloaded a patch for Windows XP so that I could access Windows XP's built-in skinner for installing themes. I got it from here.

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-En ... nal.shtml/

The instructions for installing it are below the file description.

After I rebooted my computer like it says to, I get an error when trying to boot.

"NTLDR is Missing. Press CTR + ALT + DEL to restart"

Then, it's in a loop like this. I read online that I need my Windows XP CD to fix this, but I do not have it, as it is a cheap laptop. And also, I read that it could be fixed with a CD/DVD, but I have none. I have absolutely no idea where to start, because I am a Mac junkie. Any ideas?

EDIT: bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Thank you, so much. I'm dying from laughter xD

You know, you will need some kind of bootable media to fix this btw. No cd/dvd? USB? Floppy?

Also, still laughing. God damn son...

BTW, major hole in your first post. The file you downloaded doesn't enable some magic xp function. Since when would you be downloading a PATCH to enable INBUILT FUNCTIONALITY? the patched uxtheme.dll is for allowing unverified third party software to alter your xp. And it coems with a buttload of risks. Certainly should not fool around when, as you say, you have no idea about windows.

Rappy, nope. This is before the bootloader even! He needs a boot disk of some kind.

EDIT: This so totally reminds me of being a cheeky 6 year old (fukc, 20 years ago) and deleting himem.sys from my grandads windows 3.11. I doubt most of you even know what happens when you do that but sure was funny.

Thanks! I love making people laugh!

Anyway, I figured it would be some hidden function that you can enable, sort of like the things you can do when jailbreaking an iPod or iPhone. I really need a boot CD for this? I mean, I have loads of CDs and DVDs, but they're all used and not RW.

You really do. Geez, there are SO many guides from people who have screwed there OS in the same manner. You will get a ton more help from google.

Also, you don't NEED a cd. Bootable media is not limited to those round shiny things dude.

Are you an idiot?

YOU CAN BOOT FROM A CD. A DVD. A USB DEVICE. A FLOPPY DISK.

If you have none of those, then, well, lol.

Just use google. I'm not gonna give you the answer, mainly because you posted here. It's funny because if you posted on any one of the tech forums I frequent I'd certainly help you out :D

Qwedge, do you have any PC savvy friends or acquaintances? Because you SERIOUSLY need to get one of them to help you out. No offense here, but Sensay's right - that's something that you really shouldn't have been messing with if you don't know how to use windows that well. Also, google is your friend if you really don't have anybody to help you out.

You bastard! :tongue2:

Also yes, I "forgot" HDD but given the predicament he is in, I don't see how he can easily make use of it in the same fashion as bootable portable media.

Yes, I know a HDD is removable too but not quite as portable as the other options.

Not sure if you were just making a joke there raptor but he certainly could in theory use a hdd to recover this one, just not so easily.
