Video in FOFIX 4.0 Alpha
Would like the video backgrounds to play. I would ideally like the song to be matchedwith the correct background, but any video background would be good but would make more sense if I could match the song with the video.
I have installed the FOFIX 4.0 Alpha 1 with the Fuzion 4X theme. I have some Video backgrounds for Rockband 1 found on the forum, I have changed these to the .ogv format has directed by Jstump in the FOFIX Dev thread, so i belive the encoding is correct. The game is working fine on my PC
I have set the stage display options to video, and have tried both song stage on and off.
I have tried calling the new .ogv file "stage 1.ogv" or "background.ogv" or "Stage.ogv" and tried it in the backgrounds folder, or the stages folder, or even in the song i want to play in its folder.
I am not sure where to place the video file to play at all or so the song and correct video background play with song. Any help would be appriciated.

Re: Video in FOFIX 4.0 Alpha
So place it in the songs folder, then does the file need to be named anything special, or any file name will work? and does anything have to be done to the song.ini file?
thanks for your reply on this.
EDIT: I had already tried the above suggestion but I tired it again and I have even tried just with the intro video in the Fuzion theme as I know it is encoded correctly but it will not play either.

My favourite converter has to be WinFF which is just a gtk front end to FFMpeg. Works real nicely and is simple to use.

Re: Video in FOFIX 4.0 Alpha
For graphical frontends, I'm partial to Firefogg (a Firefox extension); if you prefer a command-line solution, use ffmpeg2theora.
(I should probably post a sticky or make a wiki page about video conversion...)
Also, I'm thinking of switching the video filename to background.ogv, since default.ogv doesn't really say anything about what the file is used for.

Re: Video in FOFIX 4.0 Alpha
is this format really that hard to find conversion software for? if so.. then wouldnt it make sens to choose a different format? if its hard to make the videos for fofix then not many people are going to want to support it...
Re: Video in FOFIX 4.0 Alpha
Is it really that hard to use a Firefox extension or simple command-line utility to convert a video?
The fact of the matter is that, unlike other programs out there, FoFiX will continue to rely on fully-open formats and standards.
It isn't as if Theora or FFmpeg are part of some unknown or unheard of Internet Underground.

Re: Video in FOFIX 4.0 Alpha
Indeed.
Still, you asked if it was hard to find a program to do the conversion. Three options have been presented (And many more exist), ffmpeg2theora, Firefogg, and WinFF. Granted, looking at WinFF myself, there isn't a profile for Ogg Video, but using the command-line options for ffmeg, you could easily add one.

Re: Video in FOFIX 4.0 Alpha
I found a program called Theora converter . net a free converter that changes any files to the .ogv format. seemed to work that it converted the file, will try the "default.ogv" name as suggested.
Yep that was it thanks for your help, so the converter seems to work and the name change is what I was missing.!!
