Hammer Smashed Face Question
Okay, I'm trying to learn how to play Hammer Smashed Face by Cannibal Corpse on guitar. I have the intro down so far. Then the verse riff comes that goes like:
eb----------------------------
Bb----------------------------
Gb--------4-------------------
Db--2-------------------------
Ab------------2-3-------------
Eb-----------------2-0-1------ ad nauseum
I'm finding it very hard to pull this off cleanly. Also the alternate to this riff that comes later.
eb-----------------------------
Bb-----------------------------
Gb-----------------------------
Db--------3--------------------
Ab---2---------2-3------------
Eb-----------------2-0-1------
If anyone knows how to play it, can you tell me of any exercises or anything that helped you master this riff?

Re: Hammer Smashed Face Question
My only real advice would be to practice the riff at a much slower rate, and slowly build up speed once you feel your better with it.
Seriously, doing this, you'll ask yourself why you had such a hard time.

THE way to learn music you find challenging imo. It's how I get the really tricky saxophone pieces down (yeah, mock the saxophone, you bigots ).

Re: Hammer Smashed Face Question
Why would anyone do that? Sax rocks, period.
And no, don't play it, just think it's awesome ^^

This thread went from Cannibal Corpse to saxophone discussion in three posts. I am at a loss for words.

How about putting that in your sig?

Re: Hammer Smashed Face Question
I want to. It's a great quote. But, alas, I cannot quote myself in my own sig, because, aside from being extremely arrogant; it would also make the universe implode upon itself.

Who ever mocks the Saxophone shall be shot. Period.
I really can't think of any instrument that might require mocking...

Re: Hammer Smashed Face Question
Nothing wrong with playing the sax. My first instrument was the violin. Started playing that at 9 years old.

My experience with Bass, Clarinet, and Drums is the same. Play it slowly, get it in your memory, and slowly speed it up.

Help with the tricky string skipping verse riff in "Hammer Smashed Face" by Cannibal Corpse -.-
Re: Hammer Smashed Face Question
I also feel I should mention, metronomes are a great thing. Especially when trying to divide beats from tricky rhythms.

Re: Hammer Smashed Face Question
The problem isn't the timing. I can do it fine until the second half of the riff, where you string skip up (towards the ceiling), kinda "reverse string skipping"? I can't move down one fret, reverse skip, and then go back up to the beginning of the riff again.

I can derail a thread with an on-topic post. I am not proud of this, but it is who I am.
