Problem loading songs.

Forgive me for any stupidity here, or for posting in the wrong place but I can't figure it out.

I used to play Frets on Fire alot and had no problem loading and playing songs.

Now here I am returning to the game with FoFiX and can't even get a song to load. I've tried four of them. I don't see any help file explaining this.
One of the song is Inside the Winter Storm by Dragonforce it contains notes.midi, song.ogg, song.ini, and guitar.ogg.

Maybe I've installed the program wrong? I just download the .rar for 3.1 and unpacked it into a folder. Was I supposed to do anything else?

Help would be appreciated.

When you say they don't load, do you mean they don't appear in the list, or the game freezes? Or something else?
Also, where are you putting the songs?

They don't appear on the list when I go to the folder that contains them in game. I originally put the folders in the main directory where the game is.

they have to be in a directory called "songs", even if they aren't in the game folder.

i have the same problem. I download a .rar file and i save in the map songs, but it's never on the list, and i cant get them to work. that is a really big problem for me to
