It's out now, but I'm kinda confused. 3.100 didn't have a 2.6 Download, if I grab the installer for the patch for 2.6, does that mean it's going to update it to py2.6 or is this incase you were on the 3.100 alpha and built it with py2.6?

i would assume the "3.100 Final to 3.120~beta1 Patch for Windows with python 2.6" will upgrade fofix 3.100 full(2.4 build) to a 2.6 build of the 3.120 beta

the 2.4 build is for people with old machines that don't support the new opengl (i think)

I am having major preformance issues. In 3.100 i have mine set to give the best performance that is still pleasing to the eye. I did the patch for 3.120 and i set it to what i had it set to before, and now it's laggy. I also tried setting it to the performance setting and it wouldn't work right. I went back to 3.100, but lag is really annoying to look at. I will post my 3.100 setting up could you guys see if they're any i can change for the new one

Re: FoFiX v3.1xx development thread

Postby azoschke » Mon Apr 20, 2009 1:57 pm

I downloaded the 3.100 final to 3.120 beta python 2.6 patch and copied it, but when I try to run FOF windows says
"This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

To test it, I downloaded 3.100 final to a different folder and patched it there without changing configuration or adding anything else but same message. Is this because of Python 2.6? I'll try it with the 2.4 patch later this afternoon, but I have class now.

Any help is appreciated!

just curious, is it creating a "fofix.ini" (used to be "fretsonfire.ini") file it the main fofix folder? you may have to make one, i recommend starting with a fresh .ini as i had trouble with my old one once during alpha testing

edit: i just checked out the archive available for download and it doesn't have a blank fofix.ini included

Well, 1.20 with python 2.4 works fine.
Slantyr, you're right that it doesn't update the .ini file, but when I make one it still says the same thing. I even extracted the fofix.ini from the mac build in case I made the file wrong, but same problem. If my computer just can't run 2.6, that's ok I guess, but it seems like there must be something else.

EDIT
2.4 actually doesn't have the fofix.ini file either but it still works

i did a little bit of testing and it created the fofix folder with the .ini in %appdata% like it should if none is present in the fofix folder so that shouldn't be the problem.

i think some configurations/video cards don't support 2.6. i don't remember the perticulars make sure you have the latest drivers and such.

Could this be the problem? That has been fixed in python 2.6.2, so if FOF still uses 2.6.1, that could be the problem. If I'm way off, just tell me.

i got this issue starting FoFix 3.120 python 2.4. I know i can't run the version with 2.6 to it's fullest potiential or it's bare minimum. 3.100 i'm pretty sure runs 2.4, where i had no issues. what's wrong?

here is the error log

Is this still the best way to do change the character picture? I can't seem to find the option in Game.

Amak, when you were trying 2.6, did you remember to turn off shaders for a performance boost. Shaders are only good if you have a really nice computer and want neat effects, if you don't want or have either of those you should try turning them off. That might improve in-game performance for ya.

Now that people are starting to use pyhton 2.6 versions of the betas, let me state this:
The Python 2.6 version uses pyOpenGL 3, and this introduces a performance hit.
This is mainly due to some inefficient drawing code that pyOpenGL 3 doesn't handle very well. It will be fixed in time, but for now just be aware that you will get a lower framerate using the python 2.6 version.

Also, please note, as of 3.120 (and of course its betas) the fretsonfire.ini and fretsonfire.log have changed names, to fofix.ini and fofix.log
