If you update with SVN it should work now.

There was some "code cleanup" that happened right before beta4 release, and some things didn't get moved where they were supposed to... It's all fixed now in the alphas. Roll back to beta3 for now.
And for the record, I agree with Azzco and his "Release Candidate" idea. And then after week of release candidate (provided no major new bugs pop up) then release 3.100 proper.
I also agree with Azzco's idea of an advanced option to make the handicaps not show up. I personally don't mind the handicaps, but I know a lot of people do, so this might be worth doing.

Is there any chance that we can have a option to not show the handicaps on the score screen, but instead only show the end result score (the one where handicap already is applied). That way one could get the same old result screen back. I think that that should be in the advanced menu, end not set by default.
Any way, keep up the good work and let's get a (hopefully) bug free stable release out the door. But wouldn't it be better with a release candidate, get out the most obvious bugs, then make another release and call that stable?
Constructive comments like this are totally acceptable. Weirdly negative ones? Not so appreciated.
I'm down for that. Would you be cool with a "score modifier" appearing somewhere on the result screen?

Re: MFH Mod (FoFiX) 3.0xx (v3.030)
The only thing I dislike about the handicaps is getting reminded every time I finish a song.
I think that if we add a option to not show penalties during song results, one will still have to be able to view active handicaps.
I propose a "List Handicaps" item in the cheats/mods/AI menu, listing active handicaps, their penalty and total penalty.
As long as one can get around the extra clicks in the score result, and themers not having to worry too much about placing it. Maybe have the big score (the one that you see when you're about to write your name), followed by "(*penalty)" (slightly smaller), by default unless the handicap penalty is assigned to show somewhere else.
I'd probably prefer personally to be able to skip the handicap presentation all together but that's because I'm aware of it already, new guys are not and it should be a bit hard to get rid of it IMO.

Handicap 1 | 95.0% |
Handicap 2 | 80.0% |
Handicap 2 | 90.0% |
---------------- | ------- |
Total Penalty: | 68.4% |

Re: MFH Mod (FoFiX) 3.0xx (v3.030)
I'm trying to run FoFix with Ubuntu right now (nVidia graphics card). Sometimes it works fine, but the vast majority of the time, once a song is loaded FoFix quits to desktop and the terminal outputs segmentation fault.
Here's a sample verbose output:
I'm currently using the most recent beta, but I was having this problem with the stable version as well. When I was running Arch Linux, it ran fine.
Just got the following output from a midsong crash:

r980 attempts the cheat skip mode. Check the cheat menu in the "advanced mode" to turn them off and see how it goes!

Re: MFH Mod (FoFiX) 3.0xx (v3.030)
Yes, I like the RC idea, that's really how software releases ought to go anyway.
I'm sorry that beta 4 isn't working right for everyone, but as has been said several times already: much code was cleaned up, reorganized, and moved. I said when I released it that I had a serious lack of testing time, I could not guarantee that it would all work properly (especially since I really had no time to go through and figure out everything that other coders had changed or moved - it gets confusing!).
Then again, look how quickly the major problems got cleaned up once it was in a beta format. There are only so many alpha testers... releasing what I needed testing on in the form of a beta allowed us to get much closer to a final release much faster. Thank you to everyone who reported bugs with detail / screenshots / logfiles.
Also, I think it would be a good idea to add an advanced setting (defaulted off) to disable the whole Handicap score display / reduction sequence (and just show the resulting adjusted score) so that those who don't see handicap penalties as motivation to play better can turn them off and not get upset at the game... and a secondary place (like in the Handicaps / Cheats option menu) where the user could select and see all the currently-enabled handicaps (kinda like how Credits works).
---- EDIT ----
(and it's probably already done! lol)

Re: MFH Mod (FoFiX) 3.0xx (v3.030)
Even then, nice work done!!! Granted not everyone can REALLY appreciate hard work until they have tried themselves, it sometimes goes unnoticed. I haven't done anything major with coding, but I still have a very high respect for when things added like totally new functionality, say Co-Op and Game results and (ehem, secret things to come
), it's very impressive to me. It's all fun in the end, and get much enjoyment from knowing we give so many people the fun from all this. Even though we don't get paid, it's still worth it in the end, knowing how some thinks it's so bad a$$, and how just from python, we can almost do more in a single homebrew then multiple games overall.
I am not one for caring about scores, since when i DO ever play (about 10% of my free time when not doing other things FoFiX related.), i just plain enjoy playing hard and getting as much of a high percentage as i can, and to me that's good enough for accomplishments, but i think it's a great idea that we added a function to remove seeing anything taken away from using handicapes. Now a person won't even notice the difference. And will help them strive harder to get a better score, yet still be compliant with uploading of scores. Very cool!!!

Me too. That's why I always use the GH star scoring.
On that note, I have a suggestion for a new star scoring system: Percentage, where all stars are based solely on a percentage of notes hit, eg:
10% - 1 Star
30% - 2 Stars
50% - 3 Stars
70% - 4 stars
90% - 5 Stars
100% - Gold Stars
These values are kind of arbitrary, and it's just an idea. Also, the stars in this case would not be affected by handicaps (not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing, I know some people would consider it good)

Re: MFH Mod (FoFiX) 3.0xx (v3.030)
death_au, you just described the "FoF" star scoring system. Perhaps we should rename it to "Percentage" or "FoF (%)" for clarity.
---- EDIT ----
(http://code.google.com/p/fofix/wiki/FAQ)
---- EDIT ----
(that FAQ section about Star Scoring needs to be updated with the new "RB2" system's thresholds, and we should probably transcribe the thresholds for the "FoF" scoring system from the code to the FAQ)

Re: MFH Mod (FoFiX) 3.0xx (v3.030)
Hey, on Beta3 there is an issue with some songs not working, but working on 3.030. The first song i noticed was papagenu from the tenacious d career. It starts but i get nothing, no notes, no bpm lines, no nothing. I quit the song and try another and it works. Could this be an issue with how beta3 reads events?

That's really how it works? ...I always seem to get 1 star as soon as I hit one or two notes...

Though, to be clear, that one is affected by handicaps: Stars * handicap rounded down.
Also, the scoring is
1: 0%
2: 25%
3: 50%
4: 75%
5: 95%
6: 100%
