FOF displaying actual tab numbers instead of colours

Postby nittythefreak » Sun Feb 01, 2009 6:38 pm

Hi my first post here and somewhat unrelated to playing FOF and more an enquiry about modifying the game to display actual tab numbers. im not concerned about muting tracks and inputting live guitar into the game, just wondering if there was anything that would show up numbers so that i could sit back and play along with my real guitar as i find i can read and play tab okay, but the FOF/GH format really helps my timing.

I've searched google for anything like this but to no avail.. i know guitar pro and the like can scroll along tablature as you play but as i say i just would be interested if there was anything out there like this.

This would require quite some rework on how the midi is read. Right now the notes are read from one note each in a midi file, and there's not really much you can ad to it I guess.

This page explains that much better than I can do: http://code.google.com/p/fofix/wiki/Mid ... sMappedOut

In any case, I guess you could make a script.txt (used mainly for lyrics) with the numbers, and use the on screen notes to help you time it.

In short, the required work for this is way to much and would (more than likely) break backwards compitabillity.

Go for lyric style tabs.

The funny thing is that I thought about something like this before: putting guitar tablature/chord names/etc. as scrolling lyrics. If you decided to do so, you could use either KRMaker or VividLyrics editors, which are among the more-used editors mentioned on the forum. The former can save the lyrics in a MIDI format but you'd have to merge the lyric track into your notes.mid manually. The latter doesn't save in a MIDI format at all, but my converter will convert the timings of a specified MIDI and merge it with the instrument tracks into a new midi file.

This will be impossible for those who don't have a real guitar like me.

This is not about actual gameplay but how it could look if you wanted to play the song using a real guitar, while using the fof visuals as help with timing. At least read through the thread before you reply. =/

*sigh*

He wantsto play the song on the guitar while watching it being played on the screen, having hints on the notes for what notes to actually play, not to be scored at how he's doing. Although guitar rising is probably the better application for this, but still.

Yeah, and then there's good ol' Guitar Pro.... that's what I use to learn tabs for songs (and to help fret 'em too  )
