help with FoFIX crashing problem

Postby kburts » Wed Jan 21, 2009 8:25 pm

as you may all know, i use Ubuntu linux, but if you don't, it's OK...

i have this problem with FoFIX, whenever i'm just playing along minding my own buisness, and i:
let go of the fret,
press <ENTER> or <SHIFT> while holding down no frets
and then the game crashes... so i feel like killing something

anyhow, this has been going on for a VERY long time now, and i really need some help!

Do you have the latest version, and if so, try reinstalling it. If not, downgrade to an earlier release of FoFiX

Huh. Only thing I could say is to try reinstalling it or downgrading further. I am not exactly sure why it does this as I don't run Linux and have never had this problem, but if this problem persists and nobody can offer a good suggestion that works, try contacting the FoFiX team and asking them......

Sorry if my advice doesn't work, but at least I tried helping

Actually, try contacting the main moderator, myfingershurt.........

Here's a link, I think you can just click on it and you'll view mfh's profile (thing) and just pm him your problem. I think if he can't offer a solution, it might be a known bug and he'll add it to the to do list thing......

https://www.fretsonfire.org/forums/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=3745

If this doesn't work, just go over to the mod discussion section, into the fofix discussion thread and look for myfingershurt and pm him......

sorry I couldn't be any more help

I have never had that problem myself. Have you tried assigneing the strums to different keys and if not can you make sure what keys freezes as you said (if it's the open strumming or if it's special keys).

If I were you I'd download vanilla fof and check if it happens there as well. ;)

Good luck.

i tried it with

Code: Select all

"enter" "shift" "0" "." <INS> <DEL>

and i re-installed it with 3.30 instead of 3.35 beta 2, and now instead of it closing, it becomes un-responsive, and i have to go to the system monitor and "kill process" it, so it wont be playing in the background, the notes still go by but i cant do anything

Try using Xpadder and using different keys for the strumming.

If you don't know how to use Xpadder, here's a guide I just wrote:

this seems to be the "ignore open strums" option that is causing it. try turning it off and see what happens. you said you have had this problem in 3.025 and 3.030... thats because it was only recently added as an option. by default, it is usually on. try it and tell us what happens.

if you are having trouble finding it, try looking under general settings.

Code: Select all

Fatal Python error: (pygame parachute) Segmentation Fault
Aborted

i assessed the problem (to the best of my abilities) by running it in a terminal, and i got the above problem :cursing: :cursing:

i was wondering if FoFIX kept a log file?? If so where can i find it??
