That seems to indicate that it cannot write the cache file. See if there's something preventing files from being created in the song folder.

If there already is a cache file there, try deleting it. Perhaps the game crashed at some point and corrupted it to the point that SQLite is choking on it. If that's the case, I'll add code that deletes and recreates the cache if that error happens when it tries to open it.

Hi dev-team, great work you're doing here with FoFiX!! :2thumbsup:

I had this very same error, it happened in both full listing an normal modes ... then while browsing the library in normal mode I found that it happens when FoFiX tries to create cache file for a folder named with accents, on my case folders names like: "080701-Crüefest Pack" and "080805-Crüefest Pack 2". Renaming those to "080701-Cruefest Pack" and "080805-Cruefest Pack 2" solved the problem and now library loads just fine. I'm using the latest beta (3.100 beta 1).

nice find

I'm not sure if this is a known bug, but in cd view if a locked song is selected all rendering in the song list is frozen. one can go back and forth in the song list and even exit to the main menu. The only thing written to the console when I run with the verbose flag on is "(E) Loading error:".

As I was suspecting this to be due to me using cd view I tried thenew rb2 view and it works smoothly.

Just a little heads up. I'll add this to the issue list when I get the time.

Pretty annoying that you can't FC songs even in single player game. I have stripped everything fancy off, do not run lyrics etc. I have put 60fps with higher than normal priority to the config. Even with windowed mode with megalight theme it lags like hell sometimes. My puter is XP SP3 en, AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Black Edition, 3GB of DDR2 RAM, Nvidia 8800GT 512MB, Sata2 drives, Hercules Muse 5.1, PCI USB card (nForce USB game controller support is crap) with all the latest drivers. I have a second puter with Intel 3.4Ghz P4 HT, 2GB of DDR2 RAM and ATI x1950 Pro 256Mb with integrated soundcard and it lags like my better puter. Is it the soundcard or what? Seems like dual core does not make it lag more.

So what should I do now? Should I wait for a tweaked version or continue to play an throw my guitar controller to the wall in frustration?

FoFiX forces the game to one processor as it lags when using both processors (the affinity setting in task manager).

I agree that I really wish FoFiX was more efficient processor-wise. It's a little frustrating to be on a high-end computer and have problems playing this great game, which it doesn't seem like your computer should be choking on. But it's open-source and written in python; there's no team of efficency engineers writing parts of code in assembly to speed things up.

A few things that you might want to look at :
- Vista blows for playing this game. A very bare (~40 open processes) XP install on the same machine allowed me to play very smooth co-op at around 50fps (minus random freezes - see issue 414 in googlecode) that Vista would get about 25-30fps and lag badly.
- There are a few things in the game that definitely hurt fps, like lyrics, in game star stats, some other ones i can't think of (overdrive and solo overlays may do it for you). Try my fretsonfire.ini which is based off mfh's bare minimum ini and has a lot of different things shut off.

(i have a 6 month old 2.5ghz dual core laptop with a 9500m gs and 4gb of ram)

I don't know if this is for everyone but i am having an issue with the drum fill sounds being really low. Is their anyway to up the volume on the drum fills. Other than that everything seems to work.

Hey.

Thanks for this wicked mod it just makes FOF that more enjoyable to play. Saying that when i go load my song after all the selections i tends to hang. I have to end task and restart the game 1 in 5 chance i'll get to play a song??

Does anybody have this issue or know of it.... i have tried on basic settings (inital install settings)

My machine is DC2 2.66GHZ, 4GB RAM, 512 8800GT, Vista 32bit, more than enough to run the game.

Hope somebody can help me out.

Thanks

Mac Beta users:

I just noticed that some of the dylibs that I included in the beta were not completely universal. So if any ppc users were having problems, that may be the cause. The iibpng and libjpeg dylibs in the Frameworks folder were the problem files. I recompiled them on my computer for the next release, but I can post them up if anyone is having problems with it.

In regards to people having problems with lag... It seems to be completely random. There have been a lot of complaints from people with higher-end computers getting massive lag, while some older computers run FoFiX really smoothly. MFH and the rest of the devs have done their best to optimize code and making things run faster and smoother...
In my head, I blame python. Being an interpreted language, it would most likely be a performance hit in and of itself. Evilynux and others have been working on an experimental branch to get FoFiX working on Python 2.5 (and hopefully higher) and in theory, Python itself should have gotten faster as versions progress.

The main thing I wanted to point out though, is that I usually run my version of FoFiX on a dual-core 1.5GHz 2GB laptop running Vista, and I get some lag, but it's certainly not unplayable. On XP it runs a little better. Because FoFiX only runs on one core, it helps to shift some things over to the other core so they don't interfere.
I've also been fortunate enough to try out the latest beta on a dual-core 2.5GHz 4GB iMac and it runs really really smooth. With all settings up to full. Not sure if that's due to trinidude's excellent builds or something else, but I just wanted to share my own experiences.

Have you installed any custom themes or anything?

Hey, Wow this is so cool Ive been waiting patiently for this for ages now and to all that work so hard on it its mad! I have the up to date RB2 theme, GH III, the Pitch bend works great, I have downloaded MR Faust updated song packs for RB 1 and 2, I do have the random hang and have to end the program in the Task manager at the loading of the song screen like others have reported, I have no other performance issues though.

I have a question though I have never played any of these real versions, I like the sound of the BRE, but I have played a few songs and there is nothing there as in no colored lines on the fret board for the BRE section. Is there an option I have missed to turn this on? also in the song now I have Star Powers to hit that are only 2 or 3 notes long in songs like, lump, alive, and liven on a prayer, is this supposed to be the BRE or overdrive section and something wrong or is this just a new feature and need to find a song with a BRE, Haven't tried drums yet this is just for guitar.

Again thanks to all involved

The only thing i have added to this is the extra necks & songs nothing else. I have left it the way it installed on my pc. Why change when it already looks the bees knees. :D

Hope somebody can help me out.

Where'd you get your necks from? I assume you've got random necks on?
(by the way, I'm suspecting a bad image at the moment, I could be way off) Try posting your fretsonfire.log somewhere. Most likely it will just cut off with no useful information, but it might help

I have tested it. Doesn't help. And for others who have replied to me I have mentioned that it lags on both of my main computers (other single core Intel and other dual AMD). Refresh rate is 60, cause my 42" LCD supports only 60hz.

Hmm, did anyone noticed that this forum is some kind of boring while the week is going. It's just crazy 'round the weekends when are the coders are around and have free time.. It's like that at least for me.. I mean the FoFix thread, the others don't matter.
