Important Question!
What do I do if I'm fretting a song, and for one bar, it goes into a compound time signature which renders my fretting offbeat!? In my case, it's 3/8. This means that between this TS change and the other 3/8 about halfway through the song, my notes are all offbeat by a eighth! How do I fix this? There's no 3/8 TS... obviously... (lol, 1.5/4) so should I;
1) Double the speed and use 3 beats of 6/4ths?
2) Use a BPM, for one beat, which is 1.5 times the normal BPM, thus fitting the 3 notes into one beat?
3) Screw it and have the song offbeat?
I'm leaning towards option 2 as option 1 renders those three notes harder to hit (since they would be non hopos). What do you guys think? And have you ever come across this problem before?
(PS. Yes, it's Mathcore)

Re: Important Question!
Non x/multiple/factor-of-4 TSes are crap to work with... I would probably go with #2.

Re: Important Question!
Definitely.
On a side note, I just realised the song goes into 7/16 and procedeed to **** myself.
EDIT - Also, 3/16 AND 5/16... lol... need help.

Re: Important Question!
Sounds like a Symphony X song
Just try experimenting with anchors, x/16 should be doable with x/4's. At the most you'll have to double the BPM of a beat after an awkward section.

Nah... as far as I can tell, to get 3/16, you'd need to treble... and thats just unreasonable.
EDIT!
I found an alternative...
Lol, heres my working out...
So if I change the 175 to 233.33333333333333333333333333 (it's reccuring... thats close enough), then the three notes fit on one hopo-able beat!
They told be maths was prevelant in music and I didn't believe them. Now I do, lol.

Re: Important Question!
I'll take your word for that one, Nathaniel
Hmm.. It wouldn't be hard to write a small program to work out TSes for you in that case. I might give it a go
.. Of course it would just run in the console window.

Re: Important Question!
To do a bar off 3/8 i would either
1:go with a bar of 3/4 at twice the tempo
ex. a bar of 3/8 at 140 bpm = a bar of 3/4 at 280 bpm
2:go with two bars of 1/4 with the 1st one normal tempo and the second bar double tempo
ex. a bar of 3/8 at 140b bpm = 1 bar of 1/4 at 140 bpm and 1 bar of 1/4 at 240bpm
To do x/16 time signatures you can either triple the tempo
e.x 3/16 at 100bpm = 3/4 at 300bpm (dosent look great but sometimes its needed)
if your bars of 3/16 and 5/16 come beside one another you could always add them to gether
3/16 + 5/16 = 8/16 = 4/8 = 2/4
its all maths
I would definatly not leave them an eight note off until the next bar off 3/8 if its more than only a few bars away because personally i think it looks un-professional and makes it harder to sync the song because your metronome will also be offbeat

Re: Important Question!
I'd say use 3/4, and set "hopofreq = 1" in the song.ini.
Of course, this is assuming that the entire song is in 3/8. If it goes into 4/4 or anything like that, just cut the BPM there in half so that all the HO/PO's are "normal".
