Re: EOF 1.8b21 - Now with slash chord detection
Cool, thanks for the usual awesome quick replies and support.
Bigger issue I found: If I do any open/pedal hi-hat notation, the chart will not play in FoF. I've done it with several charts, and if I mark any note as open or as a pedal hi-hat, FoF refuses to play it. Specifically, when I try to start the song, instead of loading it'll say 'browsing collection' and bring me instantly back to the song menu.

Re: EOF 1.8b21 - Now with slash chord detection
That's unfortunate, it sounds like FoF is not correctly parsing (and ignoring) Sysex events. The best solution I can think of at the moment would be to enable the "Save separate RBN MIDI files" preference. The notes_rbn.mid file that it saves should be free of any nonstandard features like the hi-hat phrases, and would have the best chance of allowing the chart to work without having to manually remove the phrases. You should be able to just use this MIDI for any FoF/FoFiX based release you make, although you'd need to rename it to "notes.mid" of course.
It might be worth adding a bug to FoFiX's tracker, but there's no telling how long it will take for them to fix it, even though it should be simple logic.

I don't know the technical language for it so I'm not sure I'd be the best one to request a bugfix to FoFix team.
The save as RBN thing works alright. So what is saved as "notes.mid" has full notation, "notes_rbn" has everything excluding the open/pedal hi-hat notation? And what does notes_pro do? So far I've only seen that it makes the mid entirely empty.

Re: EOF 1.8b21 - Now with slash chord detection
"notes_rbn.mid" omits everything that is not RBN compliant, such as the extra guitar tracks, open strum bass, hi-hat notation, etc. "notes_pro.mid" is the MIDI to use for creating pro guitar upgrades, it would only have the tempo map (track 0) and any populated pro guitar/bass tracks. "notes.mid" has everything that is charted.
I'll go ahead and open a bug on the tracker. Could you specify which versions of FoF or FoFiX you have encountered this problem on?

I'm using the latest stable version, FoFiX 3.121. I'll try 4.0.0 and report.
Edit: 4.0 might give more info - it makes a log of the error when I try to open the file instead of just going back. Log:

Thanks for the details. I opened a bug on the tracker here:

I didn't remove that. Are you saying that it's not in the File menu when you open it, or is it grayed out or something?

Re: EOF 1.8b21 - Now with slash chord detection
For saving the notes as rbn, pro and notes, why does it remove expert+ notation for the rbn file? Right now I have to use the notes_rbn because the sysex issue with FoFiX, but that means I'll have to re-notate the rbn file with my expert+ preferences. Is expert+ notation not compatible with rbn? Or can we keep a file that just removes open/pedal hi-hat notation and nothing else?

Re: EOF 1.8b21 - Now with slash chord detection
It's because expert+ bass drum notes are not RBN compliant, so it should just be adding them all as regular bass drum notes. There aren't going to be very many good ways to handle this if FoFiX doesn't get fixed. It may come down to saving a 2nd copy of the chart (without hi-hat notation) to use for FoFiX.

Re: EOF 1.8b21 - Now with slash chord detection
I know this is another request but...maybe we could have the "save notes as RBN" save four midis instead of three?
1. notes.mid - complete notation
2. notes_fof - removed hi-hat notation
3. notes_rbn - removed hi-hat and expert+ notation (this is essentially the expert+ mid when saving normally)
4. notes_pro - the guitar stuff
1. notes.mid - complete notation
2. notes_fof - removed hi-hat notation
3. notes_rbn - removed hi-hat and expert+ notation (this is essentially the expert+ mid when saving normally)
4. notes_pro - the guitar stuff

Re: EOF 1.8b21 - Now with slash chord detection
I kind of figured the request was going to go this direction, but I don't know if there's really any benefit to saving a fourth MIDI. FoFiX doesn't really support expert+ bass drum anyway, so I'm not sure using a notes_fof MIDI instead of a notes_rbn MIDI gets the user anything, since they'd still need to have the unabridged notes.mid file to play the full featured chart in Phase Shift.

Re: EOF 1.8b21 - Now with slash chord detection
I was only saying because some people play FoF with the expert+ midi (replacing notes.mid with the expert+) if they have two bass pedals. I guess its not too big a deal (I mean, I don't have two bass pedals).
