Question I HAVE to POST...

Postby jlbnjez » Wed Dec 09, 2009 10:25 am

OK guys, as this is my first post to ANY of these forums thus far, I am unsure if I am posting my questions in the proper location or NOT. Ah, anyways, here goes.

1st. LOVE THE GAME!!! Got nearly every completed career setlist available through here with varying difficulty levels.

2nd. I have been able to successfully modify MANY of the themes, files, graphics settings with VERY little issues (other than the non-multi core support and massive memory leaks)

Now, on to my issue, which has left me playing ONLY FoFix 3.100, unfortunately so, as I tested and enjoyed the smoothness of the updated version 3.120.

Me and my fellow player's issues stem from the fact that you HAVE to set up and select a "profile" after which point we are NO longer able to save our individual usernames to the high score listings. As we generally play Single Player Quickplay, and simply pass the guitar around after each song. At which time we are obviously able to input our individual player names for the high score listings. Upon our initial attempts to do the SAME EXACT THING using the updated versions of FoFix, we were severely disappointed by the fact that while playing the same Single Player Quickplay mode, the high scoring naming defaulted to whatever "profile" we had to set up.

So, the ultimate question becomes, how do I overcome this hurdle to ensure I can continue to use the most up to date versions of FoFix?

Is there a way to "remove" or "disable" the profile features option in the updated versions?

Is it possible to "correct" or "alter" this feature in upcoming revisions?

And, while I am at it, after reading some of the other postings (MANY), and just for simple entertainment purposes, I'll post my PC specs, and some other maybe relevant info....

AMD Phenom II Socket AM3 Quad-core 3.2Ghz (stock speeds)
8G DDR3 OCZ Reaper @ 1066mhz
Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P mobo
ATI Radeon 4670 1G DDR2
Seagate 1TB SATA2 HDD
Windows 7 Ultimate (yes the retail version) 64 bit

I have FoFix set up on an independent HD partition (more than large enough to house all relevant data, etc.)
Also Have modified the RockBand 2 theme Posted as of about 6 months ago to a version we like to call "PornHero" .

As always a HUGE NEVERENDING INSUFFICIENT THANKS to ALL of you who work SOOOO damn hard to bring such joy to my group of players here, as well as ALL of the others who choose to download and play frets on fire. AS there are waaaaaayyyy too many of you to mention who have brough the likes of ALL the rockband, and guitar hero games, DelaHero, DeathEvil Hero, Puppetz Hero, etc etc........ THANX A MILLION!!!!

Make sure in the player editor that you leave the upload highscore name blank. This might allow you to specifically enter a certain name after each song instead of having it default to the name you may have entered there. I'll look more into it once I'm at my personal computer.

Thanks for the reply, let me know if and or when you can verify this will work, as I do not wish to overwrite my previous game and settings, etc, until I know for 100% sure I can do so and still continue to play as we were before.

It won't overwrite anything. Worst case is that you'll have to recreate your character which takes me about 2 minutes. If you are really worried about losing the data, just make a copy of everything you want and place it onto an external or somewhere. That's what I did.

NO GO.....

Here is the example.... Go through setup, configured controllers, themes, etc.... every step goes fine, right up until I get to actual gameplay...

Go through Single Player, Quickplay.
Selected instrument, ok.
Create profile, OBVIOUSLY NECESSARY, as will not let me NOT set up a profile.
Tried leaving profile name blank, No go. HAVE to input name.
Left upload name space blank.
Played song, newest FoFix runs EXCELLENT, BTW......
Complete song, type in name for high score.....

(In the example Profile name is "Your Mom" , and High score name is Ravyn)

And what do I see on my in game high score list? New high score..... "Your Mom".

Searched diligently for an option to disable the profile name being used for the high scores in the game, found NOTHING.

Next thought? As we are not tracking our high scores online, simply in house, and "Your Mom" shouldn't be credited for everyone's score.

AND I must say I do NOT want to have to go back, create a profile for EVERY SINGLE PLAYER (10+ of us at times) and have to select all the way back to profile select screen to play EVERY song, just to track each players High scores.....

I see your problem now. I've had this issue before too. As of now, I haven't really looked into it before. The only way to really change the highscore name is to be under the desired profile that you want the name to display on which gets tedious since you have to keep switching profiles in between songs.

EXACTLY...... is there a workaround perhaps? A way to remove profile selections from the game? A way to modify that? Or maybe.... just maybe.. since im such a newbie poster around these parts, someone a little more familiar with the inner workings of this place can pass along the info to one whom actually works on this project? to include a fix or workaround for a future release? Preferably LONG before they drop 4?

Well... I wrote that code. Don't suppose you'll find anyone better to talk to about that than me.

So. What do you want to happen? My goal behind removing it was to drop the "Enter your name" feature that popped up at the end of every song, which annoyed me a lot since I play by myself and my name (near as I can tell) does not change. Perhaps I could add a new game mode to Quickplay - Arcade Mode or something like that, where you trade off the increased customization of profiles (saved lefty/drum flip, custom necks) for the ability to enter a name at the end of every song? Throw some ideas out and I'll see what I can do about it.

Can't you make multiple profiles(for each one of your friends), and switch out the instrument to the profile you wanna save your highscore to(just like you would on the "real" GH/RB games)? It'll take longer, but it might be a good workaround until akedrou can write a new code(which you probably wouldn't get to use until 4.0 anyway).

Also in case you were wondering(I don't think you were though), the latest version of FoFiX is 3.121. The Python 2.4 build works better then the 2.6 for me, but your computer looks more advanced so 2.6 might be better on your computer.

T3HM3T4L:I've tried to sign up for Rock Band but they just won't allow me. They keep complaining I have to 'be over 18' while I've already been 18 for over half a year, and a sign up where I noted I was born in the '50s STILL GAVE ME THAT MESSAGE

So if anyone could help me get these templates, I'd very much appreciate it. I need it to edit notes and stuff for my Rock Band 2.

aander91:Sorry, but that'd be providing for minors, which is illegal.

T3HM3T4L:But I'm 18 years old... ?

aander91:Nope. Sorry.

T3HM3T4L:Nono, you're getting me wrong, I was asking how come I am still considered a minor?

aander91:Look, we can't just go out giving these things away to people who just say they're over 18 and show no proof, we'd be out of a job.

T3HM3T4L:Nevermind, I'll use EoF for it, I found the way I could use it for that.

Thanks for the repilies guys. Yes I am running 3.121, and python 2.6 rocks out just fine for me, and yes, i would LOVE to see an "arcade" mode, or something of the sort added in to 4.0. I understand your reason for removing it, but alas, we here NEVER just sit around and play alone. I have already established individual profiles for each character, its just more time consuming to have to remember to go ALL the way back to the character select screen if you will to load EACH individual player versus the way we used to play it. In the interim, as I wait for 4.0, we will use each individual profile, as i cannot justly see going back to 3.100 based on the performance increases I have seen with the most recent version. The "arcade" version would be forever appreciated, even if just by our small handful of players here... :2thumbsup:

I have noticed the exact same issue, but I guess it has not bothered me too much. I do really like the idea of some sort of arcade mode. When I am playing by myself, I really appreciate the current setup. I however, also play with a group of friends (3-5) most of the time and we do not like exiting all the way out to the profile screen. We have just accepted the fact the whoever got picked gets credit for the scores. It kind of makes the scoring pointless when we do this.

I also will not be going back to an old rev. of FOFix. I had some serious issues with lag. I download 3.121 last night and these issues seem to be gone. This is the most important thing to me, so I will be sticking with this rev. for now. Thank you very much to eveyone that has contributed, for all of the hard work on this gem of a game. I have enjoyed countless hours of rocking out. I will find someway to add my contribution to the game in the near future.

THANKS AGAIN !
SERENITY NOW...INSANITY LATER

If that's the case then right before a song ends you can press the start button and pick "new song", that way no one gets the scores.

How about an option in the character creator to set upload name to "Ask every time" or similar (as opposed to specifying your own), and then have it ask at the end of the song?
That way you could set up one or many "multiplayer" profiles that will ask for the name at the end of a song.
