New FoFiX features in chart editors
I was just looking at the FoFiX feature list and noticed the following:
1. Big Rock Endings
- Is there a way to add this in dB/EOF?
2. Drum Fills to activate starpower / overdrive
- Again, does this require a midi editor?
3. Support for Guitar Solos, Bass Solos, and Drum Solos
- What are the exact words that trigger solos? For example how should a synth solo be named so that it doesn't appear as a solo section?
4. Customizable HO/POs (including chord pull-offs) and Note Hit Window
- I suppose that only means that you can change them in game, not in an editor?
5. Vocals (seen them being mentioned a few times)
- How are they added to a chart?
6. New song.ini
- What functions are there? The list in Google Code seems to be outdated, it's missing at least "eighthnote_hopo" and "album"

Re: New FoFiX features in chart editors
1. Big Rock Endings are not 'chartable' in db/EOF. You'll have to use a midi editor (tutorial here; viewtopic.php?f=1&t=36146)
2. Same as BRE.
3. Not exactly sure on the names.
4. Not sure on that either, but I'm pretty sure no chart editor has customizable HO/POs.
5. Haven't followed vocals too closely, but this post should help viewtopic.php?f=3&t=37260&p=395351&hilit=+how+fret+vocals#p395451
6. There's a ton of stuff...not sure what the wiki says but the song.ini can also show the difficulties of songs and the icon. It does a lot of other stuff, but mostly features that have been around for a while (and I assume you know about).
Sorry I couldn't be of more help, I answered what I could

Re: New FoFiX features in chart editors
1 and 2 were answered.
3. Support for Guitar Solos, Bass Solos, and Drum Solos
- I would highly recommend you use the MIDI marking system - which will completely disable the "section name" detection, which is fairly buggy anyway. Place a note on G#9 to mark solos - you can also mark overdrive sections on note G8.
4. Customizable HO/POs (including chord pull-offs) and Note Hit Window
- You cannot mark particular notes as HO/PO or not yet - you can, however increase the frequency of hopo in your song with hopofreq = #, where # is between 0 and 5 (in the song.ini).
5. Vocals (seen them being mentioned a few times)
- Create a track named PART_VOCALS, then mark the vocal part in MIDI, with Lyric events at the same time as each note. Extended lyrics should be marked with a Text event of + at the same time as the extending note.
6. New song.ini
- Nothing beyond the ones you mention. diff_vocals is technically available in code, but not displayed in-game as of yet. You could be ahead of the curve by marking a diff_vocals, I suppose.

That tutorial by Motohead is a joke.
Just open your song in EOF, and click on the BRE tab. Make a 5 note chord for the length of the BRE. That will create a drum fill if your on drums, or a BRE on any other instrument. To add a BRE to drums add a text event that says "big_rock_ending" minus the quotes at the start off it.

I also confirm that these are supported in EOF

You can only use text events to start solo sections for PART_GUITAR and PART_GUITAR_COOP. Solos for other instrument tracks require the use of the MIDI note notations for solo phrases. EOF supports this. Certain keywords like "solo" are problematic in that they are hard coded to pertain to guitar solos. I have compiled some information in this thread:
https://www.fretsonfire.org/cgi-bin/ikon ... 3;t=30297;
4. Customizable HO/POs (including chord pull-offs) and Note Hit Window

I'm not aware of FoF supporting this feature. NewCreature seemed to be interested in adding this to EOF if FoF adds this capability.
5. Vocals (seen them being mentioned a few times)
- How are they added to a chart?
Subtitle style vocals (script.txt) are the easiest ones. Making custom scrolling lyrics or lyrics with pitch generally requires the use of an external editor at this time. Editors for the UltraStar platform of karaoke games would be good ones to check into, while VividLyrics is pretty easy to use for pitchless. Until a best practice is realized by the FoF community, it may become necessary to be familiar with multiple lyric tools. Editors that allow "tap" timing input for lyrics (not the Lyric Editor that was created and posted on FoF-FF, that creates subtitle lyrics only) are pretty easy to get a rough timing for the lyrics. Opening the result (performing any conversion necessary) in YASS or other UltraStar editors allows you to beat sync the lyrics and assign pitch.
6. New song.ini
- What functions are there? The list in Google Code seems to be outdated, it's missing at least "eighthnote_hopo" and "album"
This is probably the most complete listing:

I don't use EOF so I had no idea it actually did that. That's probably easier than opening it up in fruity loops, thanks for pointing that out to me.

I'm starting to add a diff_vocals entry to all of the songs in my DLC thread. To add unlock info, would the code be "unlockv_id = *insert number*"?
Re: New FoFiX features in chart editors
MFH made these informations available a while back (april if I'm correct):
StarPower/Overdrive: G#9
Solo (any parts): G8
Force hopo: F
Force strum: F#
Drum fills: E10 (drums part only)
BigRockEnding: E10 (guitar part only)
StarPower/Overdrive: G#9
Solo (any parts): G8
Force hopo: F
Force strum: F#
Drum fills: E10 (drums part only)
BigRockEnding: E10 (guitar part only)

1) You've described the RB format - there exist different formats for GH and GH:WT midis.
2) BigRockEnding: E10 (all parts - on drums additionally requires a section title [big rock ending])
3) Custom hopo - (F/F#) is not supported right now.

Sure. That isn't supported at all right now (nor is it for the existing individual parts such as unlockg_id...) but you can use that.

So wait...none of the individual instrument tierings matter? So I'm assuming the only one that matters is "unlock_id" then, right?
Lol, that sucks, I've been adding those to a bunch of .ini's

Heh. Keep it up, since it is planned in the future to add instrument-specific careers. But yea, no support right now.

At the moment they don't matter. But one day if and when it's implemented, you'll be glad you did it now, as opposed to having to go back and add it later.
