It seems that GH is leaning towards a cartoony, more rock band look. I seriously think Activision is running out of ideas for their GH Games.

i think they should of stuck with the gh3 style (or world tour style)....they don't have to change there art style because there releasing a new game....for me, i hate the new art style.

It looks crap because it took me 2 minutes to draw up, and the idea itself is far from perfect (I've just realised it overlaps the lyrics). But you can at least see the idea.
And perhaps when "ignition" (or whatever) is activated, a lightning bolt shoots down from the rock meter and causes the "fire".

that just gave me an idea... what if we have kinda like Dr.Frankenstiens layer... 2big lihtning rod type things(1 on each side), each multiplier give a newstream of electricity across...as Ignition is hit.. like u said.. it shoots electricity down and starts the board on fire... can (should) still have the fuel bar too though...

My fuel bar wasn't in my mockup, but I was just going with the rock meter idea. I meant for the fuel bar to still be attached to the side of the fretboard.
The idea does need some work and some rearranging though, as it definately leaves no room for vocals. I'm not sure about two lightning rods, I think it might look odd. Then again if you move the rock meter to one side it will look less balanced... I'm going to toy with the idea in my head, and perhaps make some better mockups at some point.

Blazingamer, that multiplier looks awesome (and there's nothing preventing it being used in current themes :wink: ). I reckon it would look better if the sp numbers were a different, brighter colour though (by that I mean the text itself). Also, I really like the idea of the outside circle for the... "mult2" I'll call it. I look forward to seeing how that turns out.

And finally, someone posted a video of GH5 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zd53k6ZyZBA) and in that they show some of the gameplay. I know we don't want to copy them, but if you look at the effect they have when star power is activated, I reckon it would be brilliant if it were possible to do something similar. Except instead of blue and starry, it's red and firey. And only comes from the side the fuel bar is on (not both sides like in the video)

After watching GH:5 gameplay, graphics, and features, I'll quit from life and creating graphics and themes. DAMN THEY ROCK!!!

The same could probably be said for any prior release of something from the GH or RB series compared to the then-current state of the art when it came to FoF mods, features, and themes.

Also, most of those visual effects could probably accomplished with relatively simple shaders (hence my suggestion of imitating their starpower activation). Although I say that now, but having no experience with shaders myself, I could be wrong of course.

Also, them moving the rock meter and star power bar to attach to the side of the fretboard is almost mandatory now given that they have that weird "party mode" switch in / switch out thing going on.
From what I've seen so far, that switch in / switch out feature is probably the most unlikely new feature to be implemented into FoFiX. (Note I didn't say it was impossible or it wouldn't happen). Everything else... We're pretty close already, I'd say. We already have the multiple-people-playing-the-same-part thing, and by a little bit of tweaking we could easily get more than four players (but atm it would look too squished, and isn't worth doing until that's sorted).

But GH5 discussion is kinda off-topic. We need more ideas people! Rock meter concepts would be greatly appreciated.

what if it was like the rock band meter but horizontal like rb2 tug o war, and maybe red to blue across the bottom? and when starpower is activated it could catch on fire

kinda got an idea but I dont know. you can proly mess with the placement of stuff. really I was just bored. and the starpower bars on the side fill up together at the same time. I have a quick illustration *ignore the star power meter and multiplier at the bottom. and the notes*

That's what I was thinking for the star power activation, but with only one fuel line on the left of the board, and the electricity coming from the rock meter itself.
The flames on the side of the fretboard could burn down to the bottom of the fretboard as the star power depletes.

I'm also quite intrigued with your rock meter concept. I'm kinda tending away from the idea of interfering with or moving the current lyric positioning, but that rock meter configuration could be placed anywhere really. It's nice and different. I assume that arrow slides around the edge from red to green as you rock more, and that the bar the needle slides along fills up as the multiplier moves towards increasing (mult2)
I also like how the score and streak are attached. With some better graphics, that could look really cool.
What do others think of that concept?
