Re: Porting FoFix to iPhone?
It would just make more sense to develop for whichever market is most popular. Sure, there are tons of Android users, but simply put, there are a ton more iOS users. Unless the OP is a large developer like Gameloft or EA, I just don't see him developing for other OS's. But hey, it's up to him. You guys could always develop for Andoid if you want it so bad. My Uncle wrote a book about Android apps. You should buy it.
Can we get this forum going again?
Re: Porting FoFix to iPhone?
Here's the biggest issue with porting it to iOS.
FoF thrives on one thing. Custom songs. How are you going to put custom songs in a program that you will be selling (or simply distributing for that matter). Sure, you can put some free songs on there, but no one is really going to bother unless you have big names (which you won't get). Any customization, which is, again, the biggest selling point of FoF will only be available to users who have jailbroken their device and can access the hard disc. So like I said, you're going to write this for your alleged 10% of iOS users. So here's the question.
Is 10% of iOS users bigger than the entire userbase of Android? Now take notice that not all of the user base will be interested in this. iOS has TONS of apps like these. RB, TTR, GH, GRT, and I'm sure there are more. Android has a GH app which sucked, and Taps of Fire (which is admittedly cool but VERY rough around the edges. challenging songs are completely unplayable), so if you are writing for the market, then obviously your best choice is Android. My Dad makes a mean meatball sub. You should buy one.

Re: Porting FoFix to iPhone?
SSH on iOS. ('.')d
Besides that, I don't have Android. Why not just do both?

Re: Porting FoFix to iPhone?
Yes, to get themes and custom songs, you can just SSH. It's something that every jailbroken iOS user should be familiar with. But who says this has to be in the Cydia store instead of the app store? There are PLENTY of apps that allow access to your iTunes/iPod library. And my idea was that you could do something like "Tap Studio PRO". You can access your iPod library to add charts to songs, and upload them. People who own the same song can download the chart and play the song with it. This is all done free, in the app and no extra software is needed.
Or, you could do something like "Guitar" for iPhone. You upload songs to your iPhone using your computer using an IP address that the app gives you. The app then downloads the songs over the internet and to your phone, allowing you to play them.
You don't need a Jailbroken device to get custom songs. As for themes, you can always make your own to package with the game. No JB needed.

Re: Porting FoFix to iPhone?
The point still stands. 10% vs. the Entire Android population? And I know TONS of people with Android phones. They're getting pretty big. iPhone really doesn't control the smartphone market at all anymore. If you make it for Android you could get a quick buck and it'd be easier for users to add custom content. This really isn't debatable.

to reply to a few people:
even jailbroken iPhones are more used.
And I am not going to make an "app store friendly" version, because that's way to much work for nothing. I just release it into Cydia. It will be free, since FoFix is free.
About the custom songs: this is why I wait for 4.0. There's gonna be a song database, which seems like something AWESOME for this kind of app. You just search in the game for songs and voila, you can enjoy your new music.
I will not include a song maker, at least not in the first release. I might embed code of EOF if the developer gives permission to. Though it would only be in a later version, 'cause such is a lot of work.
I think themes will be accesable through Winterboard. (So I'll have to make it Winterboard friendly
)
But do know that current FoFix themes won't work with the iOS version. But I guess most people know that.
And, if this project turns out great on iOS, then I'll maybe create it for Android too. If Android users can get access to the game's filepath. Otherwise no.
I currently don't even have an iOS device. But that's not even really needed; i develop the game with the iPhone SDK, test it out, then test it out on someone else's iPod Touch, and I'm done. That's how easy things can be
I said 10% of the iPhone users. The iPod Touch has a way higher percentage, though I don't know what exactly. It will be available on both devices, and on the iPad. (though only in iPhone-mode, not really build for iPad)
jailbroken iPhones, iPod Touch and iPad users is a way bigger market than the Android community. Period.

Re: Porting FoFix to iPhone?
I would have a hard time believing EOF would work well on a touch display such as an iphone/ipod.

Quite the load you just posted. Lots of nonsense and made up facts. If you can prove to me WITH FACTS, that:
then I will redact my entire argument. However I still don't think you know what you are talking about, at least as far as development is concerned.jailbroken iPhones, iPod Touch and iPad users is a way bigger market than the Android community

You do realize that this means that you will have to create a massive database of songs, right? Do you realize how much work that will be? We've been working on that for YEARS here, and it's taken tons of hours and multiple users to build it.
Also:

No. Just no.

Ummm the point is of not doing it again. Since this is gonna be a thing in 4.0, it would just need a simple port; nothing fancy. Won't have to create it again.
aander91 wrote:Also:
No. Just no.
What's the problem here?
And I think you are the one who has no idea where he is talking about. That you have a lot of Android users around you, doesn't mean that's the same for the hole world.
And why do you not think I know how to develop? I wouldn't go for this project if I were a total newbie, then I would just create simple apps.
Btw I am a web developer. So I know what to do with the song database. If you question that too, well... you fail. I've made a lot of money out of it, actually.
Now please stop flaming and start getting real arguments. Maybe even show some support. As I say, I might also develop it for Android. But first will be iOS. You may be happy that I do this.
