Performance issues 3.121

Postby nefarious » Fri Jan 22, 2010 4:25 pm

Been away from frets on fire for awhile but back now anyways something that's been bugging me for ages since probably fofix project started. I can't seem to find good performance settings; I'll go from it running smooth to where it suddenly starts to like stutter; not the audio but the fretboard it gets all choppy makes it super hard to play anything with consistency because it'll happen randomly on songs and some times it'll even go away.

I've stripped down settings, tried megalight themes, tried re-installing fresh, tried pretty much every version of fofix since it started development and no luck. Just cannot figure out what's causing it.

My system isn't the greatest but I've been told by many people that have worse systems than me that they don't have this problem so I'm lost. Been playing GH1-5+RB1&2 on PS2 in the meantime because I've been so fed up with this issue.

Anyways here's my specs.
Core Duo 2.66GHz
2 Gigs of ram
Windows 7 (Was worse when I had XP)
8800GT

Nothing on start up, virus free etc.etc.

*edit* forgot probably the most important bit of information if i stop hitting any notes like don't press any buttons it stops and goes smooth again and the moment i press a button and hit a note it starts to stutter again.

*editx2* just for kicks i put fofix 3.121 on my other computer it's a p4 3.0GHz, 1GB of ram, XPSP2 and a 7600GT and it runs FINE WTF? I get the feeling since frets of fire never uses both cores it actually performs better on a single core CPU.

It is a fact that fofix only uses one core, but multi-threading and multi-core support will come when 4.X comes out of development.

I also assume that your are using the Python 2.6 version of 3.121.

(what would be really nice if the devs develop code for the CUDA core GPUs... aw yea!)

this will solve your problem.
