How to make notes run down fretboard smoother???

Postby Seabass1985 » Tue Jan 05, 2010 3:21 pm

Hello people!

Firstly I just wanna say how great Frets On Fire is! Although to make it perfect I need some help!

When I play FOF the notes "judder" as they come down the screen, I've looked at a few settings and adjusting the Antialiasing quality to x8 helped, but it still judders, which is slightly frustrating!

I have installed FOF on my new laptop which is:

Acer 5542 Aspire
2.23 Ghz AMD Turion II X2 M500
ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics Up to 1919 MB HyperMemory
640 GB HDD
4Mb RAM

Just to clarify I am no expert with computers! So any help with settings to make FOF run smoother would be great!

Also I have looked at some other tips on the website, and I have updated the drivers for my laptop.

Could it simply be my laptop not being up to the task of running it any smoother?

Please Help!!!!

Increasing the FPS (frames per second) will make the notes move much more smoothly, but it may make the game run more slowly (if that makes any sense). Also, raising the anti-aliasing will make the game run slower, but improve the quality. Just try messing with some of the video settings in FoF. Also, you didn't mention what mod, if any, you were using. That would be great to know so we could help you more.

I assume you meant 4GB of ram?
I also assume you are running FOFIX.. I had similar problems, there's two python compilations available.. ver 2.6, the other 2.4.
I found major lag when running 2.6, but no problems under 2.4
Note too that they will soon be cutting support for python 2.4

I have a very similar video card and my FoFiX runs smooth. I run at 80 fps, 4x anti-aliasing...

Thanks for the replies people you are most helpful!

Oh and I just realized that I'd put 4Mb of RAM! I meant 4Gb!

Yeah sorry I didn't mention the Mod, it is:

MFH Mod v3.017

What I will do is try the things you kind people have suggested, and get back to you with the results!

I am very new to this therefore forgive my stupidity! :)

Man, get the latest version of FoFiX, I assume you had FoFiX 3.017 so get the latest version, 3.121.

I have FoFiX v. 3.121 Final and the track is being shaky to me. My mod is the FFVII theme and I've tried this on other themes such as GH V Metallica and Rock Band 2 Theme.. I have also increased the FPS to 119 (It's highest) and increased the Anti-aliasing to x8. I'm really frustrated myself and wish someone would please help me. It would be much appreciated...

Judging from previous posts, I'd lower the anti-aliasing. Also playing on a windowed screen (instead of fullscreen) may help.

Also, try not to bump old threads.

also turn off 'shaders'.. this will stop the flashing lights bar on the top of the screen, but will dramatically improve performance.

If there are large "jumps" then it's probably because your computer doesn't support the build your using. If your using the py2.6 build, then try using the py2.4 build.

T3HM3T4L:I've tried to sign up for Rock Band but they just won't allow me. They keep complaining I have to 'be over 18' while I've already been 18 for over half a year, and a sign up where I noted I was born in the '50s STILL GAVE ME THAT MESSAGE

So if anyone could help me get these templates, I'd very much appreciate it. I need it to edit notes and stuff for my Rock Band 2.

aander91:Sorry, but that'd be providing for minors, which is illegal.

T3HM3T4L:But I'm 18 years old... ?

aander91:Nope. Sorry.

T3HM3T4L:Nono, you're getting me wrong, I was asking how come I am still considered a minor?

aander91:Look, we can't just go out giving these things away to people who just say they're over 18 and show no proof, we'd be out of a job.

T3HM3T4L:Nevermind, I'll use EoF for it, I found the way I could use it for that.
