Re: How do you install FoFIX on Ubuntu?
The file you download from google code isn't a .deb package, meaning it doesn't install in the traditional sense.
Once you extract the tarball, there will be a FretsOnFire.bin file inside. Run it from that.
Unless you are attempting SVN, in which case things are a tad different.

On Ubuntu, if you double click on the .bin it should ask, amongst other options, if you want to execute it in terminal, choose this option.
In terminal, alternatively, you can browse to your FoFiX folder and type ./FretsOnFire.bin
If it doesn't work just "sudo chmod +x FretsOnFire.bin" and retry.

Re: How do you install FoFIX on Ubuntu?
I just made sure I had python-pygame, python-ogg, python-pyvorbis, python-opengl, python-pysqlite2, python-psyco, python-numeric, and python-numpy, then checked out from svn into a subfolder of my homefolder, went into the src folder, and just typed "python -OO FretsOnFire.py". Everything just worked.
If you want to use the stable release rather than the latest development version, just check out the tag instead:
