Dont use that version = full of bugs.

Therefore I recommend that you do this-

If you have a load of songs already and dont want to delete them, then move them out of the folder before you do this.

Delete your current fof,
Delete your fretsonfire.ini, and the fretsonfire text document (Start > Run > %appdata%/fretsonfire/)
Download this (full playable release of 1.2.451 with RF-Mod)- https://www.fretsonfire.org/cgi-bin....id97231
If you dragged your songs folder out, drag it into this,

Try that,

Mike.

Ok, but what folder should I put these songs in?
The data folder only has a mod and translation folder, but no song folder..

If there isn't a folder, then make one.

Hi all,
I use FoF 1.2.512 on Win XP.
I want to use a system of subfolders under \songs (= a tree structure), e.g. \songs\artists\Queen\KillerQueen\song.ini etc. This only seems to work if there is at least one folder under \artists\ that actually contains a song (and not only subfolders) - otherwise the folder \artists\ does not appear in FoF.
Is there anyway around this? I would appreciate if FoF would be able to switch through all subfolders under \songs, independent of what they contain. A workaround would be to have a dummy song in each 'meta' folder - a bit annoying.
Any insight on this appreciated. Thanks,
Frank

p.s. perhaps one of the FoF Freaks on this forum could post how he/she organizes his/her songs ...

Alltho im not a freak.
I organise mine like this.....

Data/
Songs/
Not Rock, Rock, Heavy Rock, GH1,GH2,GH80,GH3/
Tier1,Tie2,Tier3.......
Songs!!

I have about 8 Main folders, in my Songs folder, Then in the Not Rock, Rock & Heeavy Rock i have Songs just dumped in there. Then in the GH song folders, i have.. The Tier folders, then in each Tier folder i have the 4 or 5 songs. I didnt do anything special to do this, i just made sub folders, then put songs in them..

BTW You say your using 1.2.512.. DONT!!! Its crap, full of bugs and crashes quite a lot!! You would be much better off doing this!!!

If you have a load of songs already and dont want to delete them, then move them out of the folder before you do this.
Delete your current fof,
Delete your fretsonfire.ini, and the fretsonfire text document (Start > Run > %appdata%/fretsonfire/)
Download this (full playable release of 1.2.451 with RF-Mod)-FOF1.2+RFmod4
If you dragged your songs folder out, drag it into this.
This is a much better version of FOF, it works better, has a crap load more features like 2player mode! and , change the angle of the neck!..

First of all, thanks for the prompt reply.
So - in your GH folders - there are only the Tier folders, no songs, not a single one?

Maybe this is a 1.2.512 thing, I'll check the version that you recommended. - BTW: What is "RF-mod"?

Thanks again,
Frank

Yes exactly right, in my GH folders i only have tier folders, no actual song folders, then in my tier1, tier2 folders i have 4 or 5 song folders

RFmod , is a load of new code that was put into FOF to fix lots of problems, like general errors, memory leaks. that sort of thing! but it also add lots of nice new features! like being able to change the angle of the guitar neck and most importantly 2 PLAYER!!! its both players on the same computer.. but its still 2 player!!

Yes 1.2.512 IS A BIG PROBLEM! it should be removed from websites, coz its so faulty!!!

When you install Rfmod be warned! It is NOT a mod that you add to to game, it is a copy of FOF1.2.451 with all the extra struff coded directly into the game! So when you download it, this will be your new copy of the game that you play, you will delete your old copy of FOF.
This is what you need to do to install it..
If you have any songs in your old copy, move them somewhere safe first! Now Delete your copy of FOF ( everything including the folder).
Now.. Click on Start then Run and in the box type %appdata% (including the % ) it should open a window with a load of folders in it.. One of them folders will be fretsonfire Delete that folder! Now thats FOF removed Completely.. Now extract your copy of FOF + RFmod To where ever you want the game to be stored. Copy your song folder ( that you moved earlier) and move it into the new FOF songs folder! Everything should be set!! Just run the game from the new FOF.exe.
You will have to do all your settings again, like the controlls and what screen resolution etc, But you should find you have a lot of extra stuff to set now :)

Good luck an have fun! If you have any probs then First do a search on it and check out some other threads , or failing that then make a new thread some one should be able to help you out soon enough! :)

Hi Nobby, et al,
so I de-installed 1.2.512 and installed 1.2.451 - MUCH better - thanks for this advice!! The little problem with the directories has disappeared as well, the tree directory/folder structure works perfectly now.
Thanks again

in which song folder??!?? I have thousands of song folders, should i pick one of them at random ?
Do oyu have a guitar.ogg? In custom (user made ) songs the song.ogg is the same as the guitar.ogg so to save file space on the download, we often dont bother putting in a song.ogg. All you have to do is copy your guitar.ogg and call the copy.. Song.ogg
And if your running FoF1.2.451 You dont even need to worry about a Song.ogg file. As FoF automatically sees you havnt got one and uses the Guitar.ogg as the Song.ogg
As long as you have at least 1 .ogg file, a notes.midi and a song.ini file the song will work, just extract the Rar, copy the contents to your Fof/data/songs folder then play the game
It really is as simple as Extract,Copy,Play....

Dude, I really wish that there was a free MP3 to OGG converter out there...that would everything tens times easier.
