Hi all, I've been noticing a slight jerky motion in video on FoFIX and FoF especially when hitting heavy runs of notes...Its not terrible and I actually have been able to get used to it....I'm just wondering if it will get worse when I add more controlls and go two player mode....Im running Vista with all the updates, Athlon 2.4 gz dual core, 2 gigs DDR2 ram, ATI 256 video card and "on-board" sound....I was just wondering if were top upgrade the machine to a 1 gig video card and 4 gigs ram and a sound card would this clear that up ? I know there are help guides for optimizing settings for the game but I have more that one emulator on the machine and its run to my flat screen and mostly used for gaming for parties and stuff so I'd like it to run real sweet...Just wondered if anyone has been able to clear any of this up with hardware upgrades ?
Thanks

Re: Jerky video
ok, yes it probably will get worse if you go 2 player, if its lagging when you get more stuff on screen, making it have double the amount of stuff on screen will make it quite a bit worse..
upgrading SHOULD make things better but it cant be guaranteed. seeing as some poeple can play the game on much lower spec pc's that you have ( yes i know that sounds silly but its true ) it seems there is not set requirements for fof or fofix. python ( the language its programmed in ) can be a funny b1tch at times. ive seen the game play well on low end machines and high end machines, ive also seen it lag to hell and back on low and high end machines too.
Your best bet for making the game run better would be.. lower some of the games gfx settings. such as screen res, fancy effects like Glow, unneeded things like displaying lyrics ( when you not playing in vocal mode ) and the killer of all games.. ANTI ALIASING ( also known as multi sampling ) what that does is smooths the edges of things especially 3d objects it makes nasty sharp jagged edges look smoother but it can have devastating effects on performance. Whatever you AA setting currently is drop it down to the next lower setting. Ive seen games that played at a happy 70 fps with X2 AA and you set the AA to X4 and the frame rate drops to 10-15 fps ( yeah it really makes that much difference sometimes ) you could also try going with one of the less intensive themes, there are lite and mega lite themes available for both fof and fofix which reduce the amount of things that appear on screen and simplify things that are still present.
So my best advice is dont spend money upgrading your pc just for a one game, play with the visual settings first coz you can make a hell of a difference just with that.

Re: Jerky video
Thanks for the info and advice ! I'm really into FOF right now and just wanna make it run as clean as possiible and I'm sure the tips you gave me will really help....Just like many others I really enjoy some of the themes out there for FOF and hate to get away from using them but I may have to in a two player situiation...I will probably need to upgrade some of the hardware anyway...As I said before I run an emulator or two on that machine...About 6 years ago I built a full size stand up arcade machine that I ran the M.A.M.E. emulator on but blew that computer...So for a couple years I've been running it to the TV and with the constant upgrades to that program I need to boost up a bit...I was just trying to decide if I wanted to go light or extreme...As far as the FoF end of it sounds like I'm not gonna have to break the bank....
Thanks !

Just wanted to say thanks...I dropped the AA to 2X and turned off a few things like lyrics and Hit accuracy and dropped the resolution to 1024 X 768...The shapes are still really smooth and barely noticed the slightest change to graphics quality and the game runs smooth as glass now...Thanks again for the info !!!
Thanks !
