personally id suggest using the green button as fret 1, red as fret 2, yellow is fret 3 blue is fret 4, and orange is fret 5.
id also suggest mapping the strum and ALT strum to the strumbar on the guitar. Then use either the start or select button as Pause.
That seems to work fine for most people, and that seems pretty much the same as how you use the guitar in Guitar Hero and Rockband..

i think they mean an original controller.
use it like guitar hero. the left trigger in the back for green, left button in front for red, ect. but for strumming, i recommend using down on the D PAD or up on the left joystick.
