InstantJam - The Facebook GH clone
So, it looks like there's another guitar game in making.
It's called InstantJam and what makes it different from FoF and other games it's that IJ is browser-based (like JamLegend) and heavily connected with FaceBook.
Other thing it's that it stores charts on their servers (currently no customs but there's an editor announced) and either loads up mp3 files from our HDDs or makes them available to buy on iTunes or Amazon.
Can't say anything more because there's a beta, but it's FaceBook-only...

Re: InstantJam - The Facebook GH clone
Didn't Metallicaholic or Death_Au post this and everyone said it suck arsh? Or was that a different game?
Re: InstantJam - The Facebook GH clone
I don't think so. There were some other FB games like that (including the one by JamLegend guys), but this one is AFAIK fairly new and wasn't discussed here. Also this one is 3d...

Yeah, I was talking about SuperJam (the one by the JamLegend guys), this one's different.
I'll have to check it out when I'm not using work internet. The screenshots look nice. Is that flash? Unity? Something else?

Re: InstantJam - The Facebook GH clone
Find the song you want to play, then click "Get", then "Browse", find MP3 with this song and upload it.

Re: InstantJam - The Facebook GH clone
I tried it, a couple of pointers....
1. YOUR music has to be physically moved to the folder > (My)Documents > (My)Music > It can have sub folders the game will scan the folders.
2. I used a x360 explorer from GHII, seemed laggy & sometimes non responsive. Then I tried a x360 RB wired guitar, works fine. The game has better controls when you can actually strum the notes, then with the keyboard where you have to press a key then release for the next one.
3. If you don't want to move all your MP3s/OGGs to that folder, you could always browse for the MP3 yourself for the song of your choosing, just remember the length of the chart...if its 4:23, try find that same MP3 of yours that has the same length, give or take 1sec(my pink floyd songs don't sync well)
4. There are hopo's!... Its hard to differentiate the notes from the regular notes, just try. Its more obvious when your using a guitar.
5. You can only play 3 songs at a time...if you use your "plays" come back in a couple hours they will be replenished...or just quit the song before it ends, this will not use any "plays"
Well that's all i can think of. Again I tried it, I moved all my files to that folder & ended up with 456 possible songs to play, my GF likes it some..
I tthought it was half decent for what it is. Although, when you add songs to your library of in game songs, those same songs are nontransferable when you go onto Facebook at someone else's house. One last thing the charts inside the game seem awfully familiar(mostly the Metallica songs, IMO), who knows.

Would it accept having a shortcut to your music directory in "My Music" and have it read that as a sub folder, then read all the sub folders in your music directory?

I tried it, im on win7, i couldn't get it to work for me. Maybe it will work for you.
MungeParty wrote:Non-Default Music Locations: Solution
Currently, the custom music location doesn't work, so if your music isn't in My Music, the game can't find it. We'll get it fixed soon, but in the meantime as a workaround, you can add a symbolic link to your music folder inside of Music/My Music and it will find the files. That way you don't have to move your music library. Once the feature is in, you can just delete the sym link.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS_symbolic_link
Just open a command prompt (Run "cmd"):
mklink /D [path of link to create] [path of folder to point to]
For example:
mklink /D "C:\Users\Thomas B\Music\MyMusicSymLink" "D:\Tunes"
Result:
symbolic link created for C:\Users\Thomas B\Music\MyMusicSymLink <<===>> D:\Tunes
You can then see the folder with a shortcut-looking symbol in your Music folder.
Hope this helps!
This is a repost of a response in another thread.
EDIT: The above works on Vista and Windows 7.
For Windows XP, you need linkd, which is packaged with Microsoft's Resource Kit Tools. Get it here (11 MB):
