What Nerd42 Would Like in Future Games

Postby Nerd42 » Fri Jan 09, 2009 12:53 pm

Hey I remember at one point they were asking people what songs they'd like to see in Guitar Hero / Rock Band games and I gave that some thought and looked through my music collection and made a list of which songs I'd most like to see in a music game of this type. I tried to restrict myself to what songs I'd like to play, not which master tracks I'd like to get ahold of.

Please note that THESE ARE NOT FRET REQUESTS FOR FRETS ON FIRE since I only play songs in this game if they're actually set up with separate tracks.

They're already makin a Beatles game so I'm not including any Beatles tracks in this list, but I heart teh Beatles! :)

NERD42 PREFERRED TRACK LIST:

Aerosmith - Come Together (Yes, I know it's a Beatles cover)
Artemis Fowl Theme
Bee Gees - Stayin Alive
Buchanan Turner Overdrive - Takin' Care of Business
Commodores - Brick House
Commodores - Machine Gun
Creed - One Last Breath
Dion - Wanderer
Electric Mayhem (Muppets) - Can You Picture That
Electric Mayhem (Muppets) - You Can't Take No For An Answer
Fine Young Cannibals - She Drives Me Crazy
Finger Eleven - Paralyzed (Yeah, I know it's in Rock Revolution but nobody plays that)
Gothic Archies (Lemony Snicket) - Crows

Eric Clapton - Further On Up the Road
Eric Clapton - Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Huey Lewis & The News - Back in Time
Huey Lewis & The News - Power of Love
Hoodwinked - Tree Critter
Hoodwinked - The Real G
Kiss - Lick It Up
Kiss - God Gave Rock and Roll To You
Linkin Park - (Just generally ... more Linkin Park songs please. Particularly from Meteora)
Loverboy - Working For the Weekend
Mission Impossible Theme (Make a guitar cover)
Motley Crue - Looks that Kill
Nickelback feat Santana - Into the Night
Paul Simon - Cats In The Cradle
Pilot - It's Magic
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon (The entire album so you can play through it without stopping, with the Wizard of Oz playing in sync in the background)
Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall
Pink Floyd - In The Flesh
Puddle of Mudd - She Hates Me (clean version)
Pretenders - My City Was Gone
Rare Earth - Get Ready
Secret Agent Man

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Free Fallin'
Tomoyasu Hotei - Battle Without Honor or Humanity
Weird Al - Albequerque
Weird Al - Canadian Idiot
Weird Al - I'll Sue Ya
Weird Al - It's All About the Pentiums
Weird Al - When I Was Your Age
Wild Cherry - Play The Funky Music (White Boy)

Country songs:
Recently, (when i originally wrote this, it was recent) there was that craptastic downloadable Country Track Pack for Rock Band that bombed because they chose crappy songs. I thought perhaps I could give some pointers on what some fun country songs to play would be.

If I were Harmonix, I would create a Country Guitar Hero or Rock Band game, using as many masters from the following tracks as the lawyers and record labels would let me. It would be neat if it came with a fiddle controller as well as the standard guitar, drums and mike. (Alan Jackson's "Don't Rock the Jukebox" would be a good one for the fiddle controller) But this list would even work as downloadable content for existing guitar hero / rock band games.

It's not worth doing without masters.

Alan Jackson - Five O'Clock Somewhere
Brad Paisley - I'm Gonna Miss Her (The Fishing Song)
Brad Paisley - Celebrity
Brad Paisley - Whiskey Lullabye
Brooks & Dunn - Boot Scootin' Boogie
Brooks & Dunn - My Maria
Brooks & Dunn - Hard Workin' Man
Brooks & Dunn - Honkey Tonk Truth
Brooks & Dunn - Rock My World
Brooks & Dunn - Lost and Found
Brooks & Dunn - That Ain't No Way to Go
Blake Shelton - Some Beach
Chris Cagle - What Kinda Gone
Chris Cagle - Chicks Dig It
Clint Black - Nothin' But the Tailights
Garth Brooks - Friends in Low Places
Gretchen Wilson - Here for the Party
Jo Dee Messina - Was That My Life
Jo Dee Messina - Heads Carolina, Tails California
Jo Dee Messina - Bye Bya
Jo Dee Messina - Lesson in Leavin'
Jo Dee Messina - That's the Way
Jo Dee Messina - Burn (I suggest creating a special hard rock mix that has way more guitar)
Jo Dee Messina - Downtime
Jo Dee Messina - You're Not in Kansas Anymore
Mark Willis - 19 Somthin'
Mark Willis - Crowd Goes Wild
Martina McBride - Independence Day
Jonny Cash - Folsome Prison Blues
Rodney Atkins - Cleaning This Gun
Sammy Kershaw - Cadilac Style
Sammy Kershaw - Yard Sale
Sammy Kershaw - Anywhere But Here
Sammy Kershaw - She Don't Know She's Beautiful
Sammy Kershaw - Haunted Heart
Sammy Kershaw - Queen of My Double Wide Trailer
Sammy Kershaw - National Workin Woman's Holiday
Sammy Kershaw - Still Lovin You
Stephanie Bentley - I Will Survive (from the Holes soundtrack)
Tim McGraw - Don't Take the Girl
Tim McGraw - I Like It, I Love It
Tim McGraw - Just to See You Smile
Tim McGraw - Remember Me
Tim McGraw - Something Like That
Toby Keith - Good to Go to Mexico
Toby Keith - I Wanna Talk About Me (This is like, country hip hop - weird!)
Toby Keith - You Ain't Much Fun

Songs that used to be here but have since been put into games:

Thin Lizzy - The Boys are Back in Town (Guitar Hero Metallica)
Toby Keith - How Do You Like Me Now (Rock Band DLC)
Toby Keith - Beer for My Horses (Rock Band DLC)
Toby Keith - Should Have Been a Cowboy (Rock Band DLC)

So ... absolutely no Linkin Park, Pink Floyd or Simple Plan songs would be fun to play? Not one? Have you even heard them all?

Anyway, it's all a matter of opinion.

They're pretty much just power chords, over and over again. So yes, it must be a joke

Wow, that country list lacks Rebel Meets Rebel (Dimebag went back to his Texan roots. Hell, the vocalist of Rebel Meets Rebel got a guitar off of Dime.)

Also: The Toby Keith songs are more Rock Band material than anything else. GH still focuses on single instrument-oriented songs (If you disagree, Satch Boogie, L'Via L'Viaquez, Purple Haze, Crazy Train, Mr. Crowley, Electro Rock, Sweet Home Alabama and Stillborn all say hi)

Yeah I was thinkin more rock band than guitar hero I guess, though now that World Tour is out with multiple instruments, the lines are really blurry. I was thinking of these songs being setup for a group of friends to play together, not just for one guy who just wants to play crazy guitar solos by himself. If I were assembling a game like that I'd have a totally different track list. But that's not usually what I, personally, consider good music anyway. I intended this list for a game with people playing guitar, bass, drums AND vocals all together like Rock Band. Furthermore, there's no reason why guitar solos can't be artificially added. All the songs in the game could be remixes (based on the original masters but extended with additional content)

but yeah I think Simple Plan would definitely be fun to play. like "Me Against the World" would be a good one.

Pretty much any song they change for the game gets worse when they change it

Exception to rule: Cult of Personality. The new solos were due to the guitarist just being an arsehole. Added more fun to the song though.
