Strings on Speed

Postby bowzerk » Sat Jun 14, 2008 9:50 am

Strings on Speed is a game similar to Frets on Fire. It doesn't come with any songs, but it aims to be compatible with FoF songs.
It features a singleplayer as well as an online multiplayer mode (competitive & cooperative).

The Beta (Win 32) can be found here.

-fixed stuttering with vsync turned off
-fixed support for collada models
-fixed many other bugs

0.8:
-more than 2 players supported now; up to 63 players in theory, it has only been tested with 4 players though
-starting multiplayer games has completely changed; players enter a lobby now before they start playing a song; the lobby leader has to select the song, difficulty and game mode
-support for dedicated servers (SoSds.exe)
-added an option to change the neckspeed
-fixed lots of bugs

0.7:
-other player is visible in multiplayer now, either in Split-screen or Picture-in-Picture
-Joystick support; bindings can only be changed in the config.xml for now (j_keys)

0.6:
-bugfixes
-changed the way the background image is resized
-added an option to the config to change the volume of the guitar if the player made an error
-custom hopo-notes can be added to the game now(data/hopo.dae)
-made hopos strummable

-fixed crash if player presses "play" without selecting a song
-it's now possible to play songs that don't have a song.ogg
-more custom images can be added to the game:
data\tail.png: texture used for the note tails; it is recommended to use a greyscale image since the texture will be additionaly colored after it's loaded
data\hitglowanimation.png: animation shown when a note is being played; image should consist out of rectangular animation frames arranged horizontaly

Cool, a working online multiplayer FoF. Like, both people can play Puppetz Hero 1 or 2. Well, I downloaded it. I'll try it out! Maybe in a future version if a player doesnt have a song they can download it on the spot.

EDIT: Bad news. No song works! I try clicking a song and then play. It says Loading... for a millisecond and then just doesnt do anything. It claims I am playing it but am really not!

Hmm, that really is bad news. What Windows version are you playing on?

Windows Vista. UAC isn't the problem because I've tried moving the FoF folder to the desktop.

I have not had the chance to test it with Vista yet, so maybe Sos does not work under Vista. :(

EDIT: this has been fixed by now. SoS runs under Windows Vista.

Why don't we ask if we can take the multiplayer code out of this game and implement it onto FoF?

This doesn't belong in mod discussion and support, it should be in off-topic.

I guess that confirms it. SoS does not work with Vista yet. I'll change my first post.

If it's 'like frets on fire' but with multiplayer...

I could classify it as a mod, if the author says so :p

Edit: questions:
1 - did you make this?
2 - is it coded in python as well?
3 - why aren't my settings changing :p?

SoS is open source (GNU license) so you can use the source code!

However SoS is written in C++ (unlike FoF which is written in Python) so I don't think this makes much sense.

Well, I wasn't quite sure where to put it. I know it's not a real mod. But it definitely is closely related to FoF and not off topic imo.

Because it's like FoF doesn't mean it is, plus a mod modifies gameplay. This is a whole other game. You can keep it here, but in my opinion it doesn't belong here.
