Re: Recent Spam

Postby SUSAltd » Sun Jan 23, 2011 2:18 pm

There are a lot of people with a lot of posts but aren't necessarily the most trusted or responsible people here. You know who they are. If anything, I think it should be based on how high your Karma is.

And for your second idea, right now only one person is allowed to report any single post.

EDIT: Gah, I just accidentally sent in two spam reports that apparently weren't spam. Sorry to any mod who sees it. D:
This brings me to believe that the first thing I said might not work.

most of the spambots have 0 karma (because when you join the forum it starts at 0) so this wouldn't necessarily work either.

My post was a reply to HK69's idea of "a forum member with a certain number of posts can ban others" or something.

So I was saying that it should be based on Karma rather than posts. Say, if you have 20 Karma, you can ban spambots.

Yeah I agree with Susa here. We need to take action. This is getting way too frequent.

The current system allows only one report per post.

Theres an easy solution. Add someone to the staff who is online more than 8 hours a day who's only job is janitor (can only move posts to recycle but not delete).

Dare I say that cutting back on some of your pointless posts would decrease the spam count drastically.

Rapt0r backing up slashfan. That's unheard of.

Theres an easy solution. Add someone to the staff who is online more than 8 hours a day who's only job is janitor (can only move posts to recycle but not delete).

I think this idea would probably work the best; just choose a few people to be janitors and move posts to a hidden forum.

Re-read my post.

Also, this idea is virtually unabusable. As soon as they do something obviously wrong that's not due to error, remove their rights/suspend them for whatever time period.

I just added in a phpbb mod a found that requires another recaptcha when posting and the user has less than 5 posts. The theory is that the spam bots don't expect one on the posting screen, only on the registration screen. We'll just have to see if it works.
