Re: Karma mod
Ouch, Perma-bans, missed that development. A change-vote thing wouldn't hurt, that considered.

Re: Karma mod
Well, not to be mean (and cause i had "no internet" all weekend). The ability to change your mind, are you serious!?!
*super angry*
If someone gave you negative karma it was for a REALLY good reason, and honestly it reflects your behavior on the internet.
*angry*
Generally i have a reputation as a stubourn idiot here on the forum, but i have my areas of "expertise" so i can get a positive karma.
*calming down*
I find it funny that Raptor and estemhorn are pushing this issue tho, not surprised by lysdestic, i think i seen raynebc name somewhere around this issue too.

Re: Karma mod
I think being to change it is a bad idea. Because if it wasn't limited, people would flip their votes over trivial and stupid reasoning.

Or how about the fact this wasn't never meant from the beginning to be taken seriously? It was all fun and games so, at least I did, karma'd as such. It's idiotic to take the results of what was supposed to be fun and just make them serious.

this. However, I'm kindof on the fence about resetting the votes though. The main pro to it would be that those who didn't make an honest vote on someone can now do so. The main con is that now that people know that a certain karma level will get someone banned, it will influence their vote more than just out of their opinion on someone. Granted, that won't change anything about newer members, but the majority of the current regulars have been voted on by most of the rest of the current regulars.
Since your main concern is someone getting banned for the wrong reasons, one way that we could make sure that the banned user is truly unwanted is to PM a certain amount of people that downvoted someone that reached -50 karma to see if they believe that person was banned fairly. If enough people say "wait, I may not have voted as honestly as I should have", as judged by nwru and/or raph, they get unbanned. The mods could be included as well, but it wouldn't necessarily be needed because this wouldn't happen enough to need more than 2 people to take care of it.
Also, if I remember right, nwru has said that the software doesn't allow the user to change votes, and that the project is essentially dead. I would suggest maybe creating a policy that someone can PM nwru about changing a maximum of 5 votes per 3 month period. However, that would be a bigger burden on nwru's already burdened shoulders (spam is heavy, you know), so he probably wouldn't be very fond of the idea.
I think this was carried out in a good way. I think we would have seen much more immediate and harder to control system abuse if they said "-50 karma = ban" right off the bat rather than "it doesn't really mean anything, but still be honest". Not to mention, the latter makes it easier to see what a good limit would be. It would be stupid to set a limit from the start without knowing what would be too easy to reach and what would be too hard.
Either way, suck it up. You're not banned yet.

Re: Karma mod
You're forgetting the whole point that this was entirely meant to be for fun.

Re: Karma mod
This was never "fun". Everyone took this seriously to an extent. We could all pretty much guess what numbers everyone was going to get because we knew what they were like. All it did was allow others to have an excuse to rip on people without any other knowledge than their Karma.
Re: Karma mod
You can't possibly say that everyone took this seriously, (I didn't so you're already wrong there).
