How about we add a front page? You could have news and updates about the forum. Any of the mods or admins can post new articles.
This would give us something to do with the plain https://www.fretsonfire.org, you start there and can read the news and then go to the forums.

I have to admit that I like this as well. would love to see some kind of rss feed for news so I can have it ticking in my panel. =D

But the fans on fire portal isn't really much to talk about, I would prefer the news, weekly, and monthly update be posted there. And we need a big ass enter forum button right in the center, just to keep the noobs from breaking their computers in frustration.

He's not talking about a portal.
He's talking about an actual website (Like microsoft.com, or google.com, no portals there!) with a LINK to the forum, not a portal which is actually a part of the forum.
So a home page with things like a FAQ page, probably a rules page, a news page, and a link to the forum.

Do you have a mere idea of the number of forums that are like that?
It's really pretentious to think that they "are sounding like Fans", especially since "Fans" sounds like any other forums on forumotion, that's not what I call originality.
To me, a front page or a website or a portal or whatever way you want to call it is not necessary, people registered here for the forums so such a page would become quite useless fast enough. We've all seen forums with pages like that that never get updated and are almost never visited. I know that if such a page existed, I would only bookmark the forums link. Also, I'm not sure to understand how it would help in getting rss feeds? Feeds link could might as well be integrated in the forums index.
