Chat box and newsletter

Postby Maze2234 » Fri Oct 17, 2008 11:18 pm

You can add a chat box by going to the misc section, i think that would be cool. Also perhaps a monthly news letter.

Like, have an applet window to the IRC channel?

Newsletter isn't a bad idea. It would be cool to be able to see what mods came out, who won "the best whatever of the month," etc. It's easy to miss things around here.

Does this mean I should bring back my awards?
If you can read this then you've gone too far.

A window to the IRC channel would be pretty cool, although that would mean more noobs appearing.

As for the newsletter, provided you have enough stuff to say weekly/monthly, go for it! Maybe something like a "song highlight" featuring a well fretted song by someone from the community.

A newsletter would be great. There is a whole lot of info on the forums. I read thru a bunch of it but I know I miss some of the more important things. You could include best songs of the month, mods, "best animated background maker" :2thumbsup: and maybe things to come for FoF. Maybe someone has some inside info on something they are working on and could share with whoever writes the newsletter. Would be kinda like the mole in Xbox magazine. Just my 2 cents
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this game and makes it what it is! Much love for doing what you do!!!

phpbb has a built in chat system, you just have to turn it on.

Kinda like a shoutbox?

That could be neat.

Goodbye everyone. It's been fun. I spent many many hours here on these boards and playing/contributing to FoF. Today I uninstalled my game and deleted all my files. I just don't have the time or interest anymore. I won't be coming back here anymore. I might show up in the IRC from time to time to chat. I regret nothing.

So long, farewell.

I don't think that having two seperate chats is going to be a very good idea.
Here's some ajax thing I found that should have good phpbb3 integration although I'm not too sure... https://blueimp.net/ajax/

Also regarding the newsletter idea. Mass email, new thread in news every month, or maybe even (nwru will spank me for this one) a blog dedicated for that sole purpose.

Yeah but then it would not be a new item, it will just be updated.
Although it's not really a bad idea, having a element displaying the hottest news with links to the threads or articles.. but then it wouldn't be a newsletter. :)
Another good thing is that "noobs" won't go around editing it but more dedicated members can.

I'm going to disagree on the point of newsletter by mass email. If given a user-selectable (and defaulted to OFF) option then that's fine. However a (sub)forum dedicated to this, or newsletter by PM would seem more desireable while fulfilling the same ends.
