I wanted to tell the FoF creators congratulations, I noticed that Frets on Fire was the project of the month on SourceForge for March. Am appreciative of this latest version's performance fixes.. thanks and congrats!

Okay, so I recently downloaded Fof 1.3.110 and here's my experience:
  • I get much more FPS compared to .512, and a few more compared to .451. While playing it looks nicer, even with no antialiasing.
  • The "tuning guitar" stage takes forever to finish, also the "chilling" stage.
  • Fifty percent of the times I get this error: "RuntimeError: instance.__dict__ not accessible in restricted mode"
    Here is the traceback:

    Code: Select all

RuntimeError: instance.__dict__ not accessible in restricted mode

This happens in the "tuning guitar" stage and afterwards I can play, but the keys (not the notes) are not draw.
  • Finally, I would like to know how do you build the game in Linux. There's a Makefile but it doesn't seem to work, or, more probable, I don't know how to use it.

I'm using Xubuntu 8.04 btw, running on a Pentium IV, 512 MB RAM and GeForce 6200.

Thanks for reading.

First thing I would do is stop using this and download FOFIX

Answer:
See Above Post By Jjjohn0404. And even when the original FOF was still an active project, 1.3.110 was an unstable build.

A new version with bug fixes is coming next month, that's the plan anyways.

blazingamer seems to be trying to reboot the project. But as you said, there's no real commits yet, so we'll see how it goes.

Not talking about FoFiX, talking about the origional FoF. I posted a thread the other day of our plans for the game. The code has been uploaded to our github project organization.

This is quite an ambitious project! An open-source rewrite to C/C++ has been talked about since probably 2006.

Any reason you're choosing to work from FoF (last updated 2008) instead of FoFiX? Both have their pros and cons, but I feel that FoFiX has had more love put into it over the years. Just concerned about you wasting time down the road fixing bugs that have already been stamped out.

You mentioned another thread, but I don't see it anywhere. Have a link? (Edit: If there isn't one, you should probably make one)

Good luck!
