I used a few different sound setups back when I mixed and mastered songs for a certain rhythm game. Yamaha is indeed normally a good investment. I've also liked JVC. Sonos and Bose are more expensive but great. It depends on what you personally are wishing to get out of it though. Crisp bass, general loudness, good frequency responses at low volume levels, ect. Every system will have its pros and cons.

Keep in mind though, the sound system you select will only be as good as the source feeding it. Getting a good quality soundcard is important if you want truly great sound. Using the 3.5 mm jack will limit you. Going digital (optical) will really wake up a sound system.
