How much would you pay for this laptop?

My university has a laptop program I can join, and this year it's the following laptop:

Now, how much would you pay for this? Is it any good? I'll keep in mind that a part of the price are the software licenses (photoshop, autoCAD, sketchup pro, etc) and that your estimates will be without this. I still have no clue about laptops and aren't really interested in anything home-built, I just don't have the knowledge/abilities/time for that.

Doesn't seem like a bad laptop at all. Looking at some benchmarks, that vidya card is enough to play any modern game. The CPU only being 2.0ghz is kind of a let down but it is an i7 quad core which almost makes up for it. How much are the offering this to you for?

That's a pretty good laptop,everything's pretty well up-to-date on it, and it should be able to run most modern software,but high-end games could probably give it trouble. The only thing that concerns me is it only has 2 USB ports. Even my laptop from 2005 has 4, so that's a definite design flaw.

Anyway, without software (aside from an OS), f I had that kind of money I'd say it'd be in the $1,000 range new, maybe $700 used?

The software definitely adds value, though, so if they're offering you the Adobe Suite or some massive amount of premium software, it'd greatly add to the value

with "5 years support" I'd say it's worth a rough thousand+, maybe 1200 US

Read it again, it has 2 3.0 ports, a 2.0 port, and an E-sata/USB port (I'm assuming combi=combination here). So there's 4.


I hear Lenovos are very sturdy machines as well. Assuming the price is reasonable I'd definitely go for it.

I'd end up paying probably around 1300 - 1400 CAD for something like this. As far as Lenovos go, most any i have seen can game quite well. But one thing to watch out for is the power plug port. I think they are one of the ones that use the smaller more fragile ones.

Aander that still is technically 3 USB ports, which isn't bad considering he'd get 2 USB 3.0 ports and 1 2.0. The eSata might sit there not being used

To ellaborate:

USB plug into an ESATA port is like anal sex. Sure it'll fit, but it just won't feel right.

Anyway, keep the USB cable for the USB ports, and the ESATA cable for the ESATA port. They're designed to be different.
