Sorry, but I only play indie games made by indie developers, using indie musicians for the soundtrack, pixelart graphics and compiled under Linux.

How are they not independent?

They are a CORPORATION, have hundreds of employees and large financial backing. It's hardly Team Shanghai Alice over there.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independen ... evelopment
"Independent video game development is the process of creating indie video games without the financial support of a video game publisher."

By definition, they are indie.

Spoiler:It seems that now that Chell is free, the game is over for good.

That's what's wrong with it.

edit by Tibi: way to spoil the ending for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Seriously, what? Not every game needs to be milked to infinity.

I dunno, I see your point and granted, they are independently financed and stuff, but you can't really compare Valve to any of the indie developers who single-handedly develop, polish and distribute their own games on their websites. It's just a different league, they have a giant team and tons of money to burn, proper facilities, and they even make revenue publishing other company's games on Steam. How is Portal any different from an EA or Activision in-house developed title?

I'm not saying it is different. I am only saying that portal is an indie game made by an indie dev. Who says indie games need to be SO DEEP anyway?

http://www.interstellarmarines.com/

Here's an indie game made by indie devs that is about space marines and plays like Call of duty in space.

But the game only ended after two games. It's so unlike Valve to end a game series only after two games. And they may not have even ended it. I may just be jumping to conclusions.
