Is Kalmah the best melodic death metal band?

Postby colosus » Sat Apr 02, 2011 1:27 pm

I like to know the groups of melodic death metal that according to you they are at the same level of kalmah, because it is the group that more I like it, and this way to take a reference to what they are the best groups of this style of music.

Thank you in advance

Persefone is good too, they're progressive as well. Bodom's early stuff is also good.

Insomnium is easily the best, followed by Omnium Gatherum. Kalmah is okay, but they're not on the same level as those two.

gtfo with your power metal pretending to be related at all to death metal (except Into Eternity)

First At The Gates album is the best thing this genre has ever pumped out:

I really wouldn't consider Amon Amarth melodic in any sense.

I wasn't going to bother with arguing this, but I think I have a valid argument.

Isn't a genre allowed to grow? If a melodeath band borrows some elements from Power metal and keeps the core death elements is place, is it not melodeath?

The problem with Skyfire is that they don't keep the death metal in place. Growls, sure, but otherwise it's power metal. Vocals don't make you metal, ask Brokencyde.

Everything Skyfire has ever released except Spectral has been power metal with some silly vampire teeth on. Spectral had some solid Psycroptic-style riffs along with the power metal and the keyboards sounded quite different from other releases. But one album doesn't determine a band's genre.
