Re: Bands with orchestra?
Surprised no one mentioned Nightwish from what I saw, but yes, Sonata Arctica's latest album is good.

Their wonderful Masterpiece, The Odyssey, nuff said.
because they're not "a band with an orchestra", which is what the thread is about. Plus, they suck in my humble opinion, I am in no way saying that the suckage of symphony X is a fact.

Re: Bands with orchestra?
Bawwww. Well then let's clarify. Is having an orchestra actually having a physical representation of about 50 or so performers or using Symphonic elements in your sings via editing/sampling/synthesizer?
Re: Bands with orchestra?
Warhol's thread, Warhol's rules. But having a synthesizer with all its funky sounds wouldn't cut it I guess.

Re: Bands with orchestra?
Avenged Sevenfold uses orchestra stuff in some songs. Most notably in Afterlife. There are a lot of Piano segments in their songs, even some that you wouldn't expect. (Like beast and the harlot, if you listen to the split tracks)

Electric Light Orchestra's pretty cool.
Paul McCartney did some stuff with orchestras, like Live and Let Die.

It wouldn't have to have all the 50+ people right there playing. Maybe a synthesizer that mimics/imitates an orchestra would suffice. I'm only after the sound, anyway. Not the physical presentation (What are the chances of a concert where I live? xD)

Well then that's pretty much all I listen to.
Dark Moor
Stratovarius
Amberian Dawn
Angra
Children of Bodom
Conquest
Fairyland
Fantasia
Rhapsody
Silhouette
Skyfire
Symphony X
Ultimatium
And you might want to check out Vanessa Mae. Its a bit backwards, but I think you'll find it cool nonetheless.

Absolutely =D I was going to post that A7X has orchestra sounds including violins (afterlife) piano (beast and the harlot, unbound the wild ride) and just listen to a little piece of heaven (it explains all) =)
