i would certainly hope not... anyway im pretty sure that fraps had pretty horrible vista support back then...so like others have said, you probably need to update

Sure he did. Eitherway, just upgrade. There is no reason to continue using outdated software especially when it doesn't work.

Like I said, the company that sells the software would be able to retrieve purchase records. There's no evidence to support the claim that it's a legit copy. Beepa (the company that makes FRAPS) doesn't appear to distribute it on physical media, so his "disc version" is probably an illegal copy. If it's an original disc, then it should have a serial number or ANYTHING to identify it, and there would be some documentation to say whether the license is legally transferable.
