How to reset administrator account?...

Postby KTownEgghead » Fri Apr 16, 2010 10:05 pm

I'm trying to restore another computer back to it's basic settings, with no personal information on the user account. Unfortunately, I don't have a DVD drive on it and I don't have a big enough flash drive to put a new operating system on it. Can anybody tell me how to reset an administrator account without reinstalling Windows?

Thanks :)

I'm pretty sure the latest Ubuntu fits on a 2GB pen drive

@Rapt0r, I don't own one. :P I should invest in one eventually, but for now, I'm stuck with what I've got.

@crazy.neo, This isn't for me. I'm giving this computer to a friend, and I even offered to install Xubuntu on it. They love their Windows, and they're sticking with it.

I just gave up and created a new administrator account, deleting the other one.

Thought you were trying to hack into Fans or something and restore your admin status.

I'm watching you.

Deleting accounts? Sounds about right.

Uhh, not quite sure what your asking. But if you want to just like make it like new without restoring... you could create a new account, login to it, then delete the other one.

I'm not sure if you'll wind up having problems from deleting the default Administrator account, but if you had access to do that or create a new account and give it local administrator access, why couldn't you just have reset the password normally?

It wasn't just resetting the password, it was actually erasing ALL of the user information. I haven't had any problems thus far with the computer (Using it right now to fix my laptop)... so all seems good.
