Re: Stoner Metal/Rock
What Monster Magnet and Sleep did was basically write stories that make little sense. MM was influenced by delta blues imagery and science fiction. Sleep was influenced by science fiction and pot.
As for music, basically, you're probably gonna want to tune down a step or two, although standard also works fine. Basically, make intricate, groovy, fast pentatonic riffs with lots of chords, then, instead of playing them fast, slow them way down. It comes out sounding either really boring, or really great stoner material. Either that or copy and paste Sabbath riffs. Worked for Sleep.
"Atomic Clock" - Monster Magnet wrote:The moon crashed into the desert
It gave me my brand new home
These souls gone to feed in my crater
I eat 'em as fast as they come
I dig your love and affection
I dig your voice on the phone
So pour some coins in my crater
I spend 'em as fast as they come
A greased up atomic pavillion
A great way to swallow my time
But I do think I need a stronger witness
To watch me blow my mind
You ain't digging on my questions
And I know I ain't digging on your lies
Keep on selling me my future
And I'll keep on wearing my disguise
**** may last forever
But my fuse gets shorter every day
I'd be glad to take your money
But gladder to burn it all away
So won't you put my **** in plastic
And put my brain in a jar
If there's something left of my spirit
It'll find you where you are
Still so goddamn hungry
I'm feeding off my own bones
So lay me out in my crater
And nuke me 'til I glow

Okay, just because you told me to, I'm going to stop defining between different forms of metal, and be lost as to the difference between Carcass and Motley Crue.

Who is **** stupid enough to not be able to tell the difference between too different bands? Hell, you could give EVERY band it's own sub-genre but then what the hell is the point of having band names?

It's because many bands have similar dynamics and sound, ect. Every metal band doesn't sound drastically different. Having subgenres helps people find new bands that may have otherwise overlooked.
Now get back on topic. Jesus.

Write about having no inspiration for songs for your stoner metal band.
dance along the fault line; feel the shaking in your bones,
lose the tension in my throat, and live for something.

Doesn't make much sense and is pretty damn stupid, but that's the point eh?

Re: Stoner Metal/Rock
Make a thread where each post goes into the lyrics. That should make it pretty psychedelic provided that people do it well.
Better option: become an Ambient DnB band.

Re: Stoner Metal/Rock
Seeing as though it is stoner metal. Get high and write down crap and put music to it.
It's how the amazingness of Has Pipe (by Weezer) happened.
