I'm honestly surprised there hasn't been a thread of this yet, so I'll create one.

So AION has been live for a good few days now and I missed the launch :(
BUT I DON'T CARE.

The reason why I missed the launch is because I was waiting ever so patiently for the AION Limited Collectors Edition to come in stock.
And today... it finally arrived. Look at this beauty :D

So now all that is left is to log on and create an Asmodian Loli :D

So who here plays this game?

Just pay close attention to the art style, and the wings you get when you learn to fly.

Also, Aion has the potential to compete with WoW, but I don't think it can replace it.

i agree completely with skutch. incidentally, i got into open beta before they shut it down in preparation for launch, i had fun. if i could afford it, i'd probably buy it, but i can't afford the monthly fee. (well, rephrase: i'm not willing to fork over the monthly fee. :P)

every korean mmo since flyff has had wings or another form of flying. It's nothing new. you can even fly in WoW

Also, It's just WoW with wings. SAme generic click enemy, press numbers, watch a fight that you aren't controlling blah blah blah.

it's also got unprecedented character creation tools, and it's got the best graphics of any currently released MMO...

oh, and it's not just "hey, look at my pretty wings!" <every MMO ever> or "hey! look at my pretty wings that get me from point A to point B faster than you!" <equivalent of WoW's flying> it's "YOU! DUEL AT 100 FEET, RIGHT NOW!" - combat while flying is a big part of the game (which might have been in FlyFF - but FlyFF sucks. :P).

I hate mmorpgs so much now; having been playing them since UO with a total of about 100+ different ones played over the years. I just don't see the point in playing them anymore; you spend all that time grinding trying to reach end game for some satisfaction; meanwhile you can load up any other online game in any other genre such as rhythm, sports games, FPS, RTS etc. and get instant gratification with far less time wasted. Hell some mmorpgs don't even have end game content; people grind to max level and then realize there's nothing to do besides maybe pvp but what fun was that? You could simply loaded up a FPS and had instant pvp action.

p2p mmorpgs are essentially designed to keep you grinding as long as possible without totally pissing you off; just so they can maximize profit on what essentially is an empty game with maybe some pvp action.

flyff was just the first to do it, just about every new korean mmo out there does it now.

and I still don't think looking good is a BIG selling point for an MMO

I gave up on MMOs (any of them) since Drift City's Great Euro Lockout at the start of this month.

Not particularly bothered about them these days.
