It's not gonna happen. I can think of 2 arguments against it off the top of my head:

1) There's been so many instances of "the world is going to end on x date in y year" that it's pretty likely this will be just another false. People thought the world was going to end in 2000 for instance. did it happen? no.

2) I believe the people that predicted this were the Mayans. While they were a much more advanced civilization compared to the Europeans at the time, and had quite a bit more knowledge of how things work, it's near impossible for any human to predict something like that and be 100% accurate. Not only that, but they themselves were destroyed by the Spanish conquistadors. Did they predict that? I'm highly doubting it.

Thousands of years ago, a race whose technology and scientific knowledge were vastly inferior to ours today decided that it wasn't necessary to put days on their calendar past a few thousand years ahead. Now people today with vastly superior technology and vastly inferior scientific knowledge interpret the end of the calendar as the end of the world. This is even more ludicrous than Y2K.

and that computers would die.

this leads me to conclude that as i have no calender at the moment i am infact dead, and this is the afterlife.

Here's my beef with this problem.

The Mayan's based their calender around following Venus, instead of the sun. This resulted in shorter "years"

(210 days a year vs 365).

So, that means that the Mayan equivelent of 2012 HAS ALREADY GONE BY.

I did the math in class once I found this out, since I was getting sick of hearing of this bullsh*t and 5 Mayan years equals about 3.5 Current years.

It's easy to see why I don't follow this.
