Should I learn playing real guitar?
Hello,
I have to make a decision. Buying and learning electric guitar or buying XBox360? I love playing rhythm games, but I was never actually good in music, tough people say I have good music ear. I'd like to learn to play guitar but I can't really choose. I feel bad just playing games (tough I'm learning programming in C++). I don't want guitar for any sort of career or anything, just playing for fun.
Thanks for advice... :)

Stick with your vidya gaems, leave the music to the musicians and artists! :D

The only way to get any good at playing an instrument is really wanting it (does not apply to Japanese kids); just because you ask this makes me want to suggest buying an Xbox.

Re: Should I learn playing real guitar?
As said, the main point is motivation.
A lot of people actually start playing guitar and stop it after 1 or 2 months because they can't do those awesome things they thought they could do...
Because of lack of motivation:
1) They didn't make any progress.
2) They definitely stopped playing.
Just the fact that you hesitate prove that you'd better take the XBOX...

This is good, there is a lot more to life than just playing computer.
I dont get why so many people are being negative over you expressing an interest to do something slightly more productive.
The guys have a point in saying you dont seem to have much of a passion for it but that just means you need to have a think about what you could spend your time learning.
If not there is still no reason why you cant try anyway until you find something you are passionate about.

I had to make that desition once, but unlike you, I already played acoustic guitar a long time before. But at that time my Xbox 360 suffered from the infamous red lights of dead, and since my Xbox was a modded one and I live in Paraguay, I had no choice but getting a new Xbox and waiting 5 moths for the electric guitar.
So, if you don´t wanna suffer this, my friend, I advise you to get a PS3 if you are getting the console.

anyways, for starters you probably want a really cheap guitar, that way if it isn't quite what you want to do you didn't waste too much money.

I feel that a lot of guitarists/drummers/singers/etc. are born with the gift of musicianship, myself included (a lot of my ancestors were musicians), others, which could be your case, is an acquired skill, but that doesn't mean that you should give up just because you can't do all these crazy solos, scales, pinch harmonics and whatnot, no one is born with the ability to be a god at an instrument.*

Well, my granddad and grandma were an artists (RIP) and my uncle is one aswell, but not musicians. I'm interested in buying guitar for longer time but I never had money (yes I know there are lots of cheap ones but still 100 dollars is a bit for me)...or perhaps I just couldn't save for it....I will have to think it over few times, but I think guitar is better then just another gaming machine...

Indeed.
None of us start at the top, we all need to progress there.

I think it's very worth it. I bought a $100 guitar and learned some scales and chords then moved to a better guitar. There is no better feeling (for me) then plugging into the wah pedal and amp and getting some very heavy sounds out of it. Especially actually playing.
