Freeware games

Postby mmsven » Mon Jun 15, 2009 2:27 am

This thread is devoted to freeware games. If you know of or find any good ones, post them here, but PLEASE GOD NO MMO'S. Here are some ones I found myself.

Retail:

Ground Control - An excellent RTS.
http://www.fileplanet.com/156136/150000 ... (Free-Game)

Grand Theft Auto 1, 2 - These have been released for free and updated to run on XP.
http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/

Command & Conquer Gold, Red Alert - These haven't updated at all, and force you to burn or mount the disk images, so you may as well have downloaded them illegally. This way is legal atleast.
http://www.gamershell.com/news_41337.html
http://compactiongames.about.com/od/fre ... t_free.htm

Non-retail:

I Wanna Be The Guy - Masochists will love how this game rips their balls off.
http://kayin.pyoko.org/iwbtg/

Trackmania Nations (Forever) - You race in cars... IN THE SKY!
http://www.trackmania.com/tm/index.php?rub=nations

Narbacular Drop - Portal's father.
https://www.digipen.edu/fileadmin/websi ... cularDrop/

Toribash - A crazy physics-based fighting game where you determine every body joint's movement. I'll see you online.
http://www.toribash.com/

Stepmania - DDR + custom songs + online.
http://www.stepmania.com/

Temporal - An excellent Braid-like platforming puzzle game.
http://www.potato-factory.com/temporal/

Closure - Another excellent platforming puzzle game.
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/closu ... es;title;2

Legend of Princess - It's like Zelda if Zelda games were 2D platformers with a lot more emphasis on combat.
http://www.konjak.org/section.php?section=princess

Hurrican - A remake of Turrican, seems awesome.
http://turrican.gamevoice.de/hurrican_site/

Battle for Wesnoth - A good turn-based strategy game.
http://www.wesnoth.org/

Eversion - Awesome, original platformer with an old-school look.
http://zarat.us/tra/offline-games/eversion.html

Chalk - Another Konjak game, where your mouse is your weapon. Sorta shmup-ish.
http://www.konjak.org/section.php?section=chalk

Penumbra - They are calling it a tech demo now, but it's still awesome. I also recommend picking up the commercial games.

Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst.

The official servers have gone down, but a free private server as well as the official download for the client are both still up at the above link.

Neverball

This is a Super Monkey Ball clone, but it seems development has slowed.
PM me for my Wii or DS Friend Codes.

Since "DragonFail" "sucks" so much, I won't post anything related or about them any longer.

Yeah, mmsvens will do that to you, that's why you should spray your topics with "Raid", "Pam" or "Eau de Toilete"

The joke

Your head

Just out of reach, ain't it?

Also, I played Temporal.

Awesome game, hard as hell at points but awesome, I highly recommend it, it even has a good sense of humor.

This thread is pretty damn pontless. There's already a more-or-less complete list of Indie/freeware games. Go there. There are some awesome games there.
