Question fer Geetarists

Postby Electro Tomato » Sat Mar 14, 2009 10:13 pm

My strings just broke, so I'm a-headin' on down to Guitar Center to get some new ones. I need a little help though.

I need strings that can withstand switching between Standard (EADGBE) and New Standard Tuning. Which is CGDAEG. So, in essence, can be tuned low on the bottom two, normal on the D, and higher on the top.

The only way I remember the weird tuning is the acronym. "California Guitarists Drop Acid Every Gig"

Also, I need strings that will stay fiercely in tune and not be too gooey at B Standard.

Is your guitar built for the strings needed for that tuning?

I accidentally tuned the top one too high, so I said "**** it" and took off all of them. And yes, it is, I've used the tuning on it before, it was with the stock strings that came on it.

Thanks, but i'm strapped for cash, so I don't want to buy a bunch of different string sets to make a custom gauge set. Is there a single pack that would work?

You're pretty much gonna have to make a custom set...

Fair enough. I don't need that food...
Just kidding.

So what about strings that I can switch between C# and B?

I suggest you buy a pitch shifting effects pedal. The Zoom G1 is something like 70 or 80 dollars US and it can achieve all of these tunings while remaining in standard.

ha thats cool, its tuned in fifths like cello and mandolin and such. Mando chords would work on the top. Not sure what that last one would be, a minor third up?

I don't like using too many pedals...

You shouldn't have took your strings off. That can easily mess up your intonation and make things a lot more difficult. I recommend D'Addarios, Ernie Ball Slinkys, Elixers...

I use Ernie Balls, I need a gauge that would work so I can make a custom.
