Mistabone wrote:I know that people have already said these but for me hands down the most emotional moment in any video game has to be

Spoiler:when Sepheroth murders Aeris in FFVII. I still remember the first time I saw that. It blew me away.

closely followed by

Spoiler:the end of FFX when Tidus begins to fade out and puts his arms around Yuna before he does. It's one of those holy **** moments that you never really forget. My wife was watching it with me and she wound up with tears in her eyes.

A close runner up has to be

Spoiler:in Resident Evil: Code Veronica when that teenager is transformed into a mutant creature that Claire is forced to kill, then she stays with him afterwards to comfort him as he dies.

It might sound silly to some but that really got to me lol.

geez, so much originality.

In Batman Arkham Asylum

Spoiler:There's a room you enter with lots of cells full of exceptionally crazy crazies, and they're all shouting and making a lot of noise, and I found that section quite... disturbing. Not exactly scary, but I found myself wanting to get away from the noise as soon as possible. It was quite a powerful emotional response.
And then when you come back there's an oh **** moment when you find the cells are all open and they're all gone.
Turns out they're easy to take out and never come at you in a mass group like you first expect, but still, it's a paranoia that sits with you for a while.

Also, when the game appears to glitch out before the scene with Joker taking Batman into Arkham. I genuinely thought my game had bugged out and I wouldn't be able to finish it.

And finally, the brief moment where it seems that Joker is going to turn Gordon into a big monster you'd have to fight. I know they can't just kill off a main character, but I still thought I'd have to fight a Mutant Gordon.

That bit where Gordon "dies" early on was too obviously a hallucination. The game was all at weird angles. When Batman came back and found it wasn't Gordon and was relieved I actually did something I rarely do and talked to the game: "Surely you weren't that stupid, Batman?"

And just while I'm still in BAA spoiler mode, who didn't see the ending-after-the-credits (with bane grabbing a crate of Titan) coming?

And Metal Gear Solid.

Spoiler:Grey Fox getting crushed under REX's foot was a big one.
Meryl being controlled by Mantis creeped me out the first time. Figuring out how to defeat Mantis is one of my favourite emotional "Aha! I know the trick now" moments ever.
Meryl being shot by Wolf. Wolf's death. And the moment I worked out the DARPA chief was actually Decoy octopus also rank highly.
The ending, not so much. Not even the ending with Meryl dead.

That, seriously, I thought my xbox was f*cked again.
Also, I didn't saw bane... I only saw the box of titan in the water, Maybe I wasn't paying attention.

And this morning, I finally beat Einhander, and didn't expect this:

Spoiler:The people you're working for to bring down the corrupt government power turns on you and tries to take you out. Sort of like in Starcraft near the end of the Terran campaign.

I tried to use the same trick against Screaming Mantis in MGS4, and Otacon called me up and told me off for being stupid. I lol'd.

1. When Sergeant Johnson was killed. That sucked. He was the most awesome black guy ever lol.
2. Miranda Keyes dying also sucked. ****ing Covenant.

1. When Marcus barely made it onto the helicopter with the rest of the COG soldiers was pretty intense.
2. When the background speaking female Locust creature riding another weird creature at the end was shown. I was like, "**** those Locust prawns!" >.>

1. Pretty much all of the assassinations were fervent.
2. I didn't expect to have to fight the head assassin leader dude at the game's end. Pretty intense.

The World Ends With You

Pretty easy to tell from the letters that were given to you.

it's a DS game that no one talked about when it was released in the gaming press, so I don't know it very well. I just saw an ad for it once, that's the only way I recognize the name.

no one talked about? it has 59 critic review according to metacritic and it's in 12th place in all-time high scores for the ds

About the Batman thing...

Spoiler:Bane? I'm pretty sure it was Croc. Bane couldn't breathe underwater, could he? I'm expecting BAA2 to involve a mutated Killer Croc.

If you count being disturbed an emotion, I'd say that Silent Hill Homecoming's bosses are doing a good job of that... the cutscene immediately preceding the fight with Scarlet still lives on as one of the most disturbing things I've seen in a game (so far...)

none of those reviews were from sites I actually visit besides IGN and Gamespy so that explains it. I mean I listen to 5 different bi-weekly/weekly gaming podcasts so I should have heard of it at least once.

a review isn't talking about it, big press releases and preview events are talking about it

Spoiler:Interesting... Because a friend of mine swore he saw scarecrow. I thought he just saw the tubes and stuff and assumed wrong, but killer croc looks completely different...
Perhaps there were different endings for different people?

Also TWEWY was a brilliant game.
