I've never had anyone break into my house; that doesn't mean I'm going to remove the locks from my doors.

Using Opera? Consider yourself very lucky.

That IS lucky. Although a web browser shouldn't be a factor.

It's just another attack vector. Using any browser will be one of the most common ways to get a computer infected. Firefox being open source means its vulnerabilities can be identified and fixed more quickly than a closed source product.

The opposite is also true.

That's not the case for responsible programmers, like those that program Firefox. History has shown that they patch Firefox's discovered vulnerabilities faster than vulnerabilities disclosed for other browsers. And the big picture is that closed source projects will have vulnerabilities until they're discovered, published and/or the devs get around to it. There have been IE vulnerabilities that take months to years to get patched, even after being publicized.

Cut the browser wars, please guys.

It's irrelevant to the topic at hand, and I'm pretty positive that none of us are going to change our minds.

For the record, FirefoxMyths is far from being unbiased. In the end, nothing is secure. It mostly comes down to users and their own stupidity.

agreed, Try reinstalling XP 2 times after an win32 virut attack, that's not fun. On top of that the damed conficker got me too, I'm lucky avg got my back. It was in my WMP folder, no where else. Unfortunatly i had to reinstall WMP, doesn't matter, my computer is virus free.

Code: Select all

<@away_xbox> Looks like it's your lucky day Amak11 >:) Since i don't see Amak here ill choose somebody else....
* @away_xbox straps 15 sticks of TNT to Amak11's body. The display reads [58] seconds.
<@away_xbox> Diffuse the timer by cutting the correct wire. There are 14 wires. They are Green White Peenus Indigo Black Gold Grey Brown Violet Turquoise Teal Magenta Mauve and Yellow.
<Amak11> oh really
<Belisario93> hmm
<Amak11> !cutwire Peenus
<@away_xbox> ...snip....
<@away_xbox> Amak11 cut the Peenus wire. This has defused the timer on the TNT! Just try and get it off you without setting it off, ok?

Bottom line, crazy.neo pulling one web page means absolutely nothing. The net result of open source software is that more people find and fix problems. FoFiX being open source and readily available has lead to more devs adding to and fixing it.
