This is what i gathered off the internet for GH3

Battle Mode

IGN announced the game would feature a new multiplayer game mode called Battle Mode.[20] The mode puts a twist on the Pro Face-off mode introduced in Guitar Hero II. Two players will face each other, trying to complete a song while successfully playing Star Power sequences to earn attacks that can be used against their opponents. Players will be able to store 3 attacks at a time and can activate them by tilting their guitars upward. If neither player fails the song, they will face each other in a sudden death segment. The attacks will include:

Broken string: One fret button on the opponent's guitar will not work until it is fixed (by rapidly tapping the button).
Difficulty up: The opponent will play the song on an increased difficulty for a short duration of time (except for expert difficulty).
Amp overload: The fret board will shake and appear blurry, making the scrolling notes difficult to read.
Whammy bar: The opponent will have to use the whammy bar before he/she can play notes again.
Steal power: This will steal your opponent's power-up (this will be lost if used when the opponent has no power-up).
Double notes: The opponent will have to play any single note as a two-button chord, and any two-button chord as a three-button chord for a short amount of time.
Lefty flip: The fret board will be mirrored, requiring the player to switch their handedness on the guitar.
It has been revealed by Neversoft lead developer Alan Flores in a GameSpot interview that there will be 3 boss battles in the game (one of them being the aforementioned Slash), and one of them will be against a "fictional" guitarist.

Character cast
Still according to Flores, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock' will feature a cast of thirteen characters, five of them will be unlockables. Out of the eight starting characters, one new addition is Midori, a purple-haired Japanese girl with a J-Pop look. The eight returning characters are Axel Steel, Casey Lynch, Grim Ripper, Izzy Sparks, Judy Nails, Johnny Napalm, Lars Ümlaüt and Xavier Stone. Slash will also appear in this game as an unlockable character, as stated above.

Venues
In addition to four new songs, ScoreHero also reported some of the new venues that will be featured in the game. Though no real descriptive information was provided other than being described as "amazingly well done", the names of the venues were revealed:
Backyard Bash
Mitch's Moose Lounge
Video Shoot
Ye Olde Royal Odeon
Shanker's Island
Desert Rock Tour
Kaiju Megadome
Lou's Inferno

Soundtrack
On May 23, 2007, Activision announced 11 songs that will appear in the game. IGN revealed two more tracks on May 31. A trailer for the game revealed two more tracks on July 9. Users from the ScoreHero forum reported 4 additional songs on July 25, 2007. The list includes both cover songs (indicated by the phrase "as made famous by") and master tracks, featuring performances by the song's original artist. The Living Colour track, "Cult of Personality" was rerecorded (with a new guitar solo) by the band after the master track could not be located. According to IGN.com, this new guitar solo makes the song on expert "just plain ridiculous."

Lead developer Alan Flores states in a GameSpot interview that there will be "over 70 songs", (over half of them master recordings) on the final soundtrack for the game.

bold denotes song performed by the original artist (all other songs are covers)
"Barracuda" – Heart
"Cherub Rock" – Smashing Pumpkins
"Cult of Personality" – Living Colour
"Even Flow" – Pearl Jam
"Hearts on Fire" – Hammerfall
"Knights of Cydonia" – Muse
"La Grange - ZZ Top
"Lay Down" – Priestess
"The Metal" – Tenacious D
"My Name Is Jonas" – Weezer
"The Number of the Beast" - Iron Maiden
"Paint It, Black" – The Rolling Stones
"Rock and Roll All Nite" – Kiss
"Rock You Like a Hurricane" – Scorpions
"Sabotage" – Beastie Boys
"School's Out" – Alice Cooper
"She Builds Quick Machines" – Velvet Revolver
"Slow Ride" – Foghat
"Suck My Kiss" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
"Through the Fire and Flames" - DragonForce
"Welcome to the Jungle" – Guns N' Roses
In addition, bands confirmed to be contributing to the game include:

Queens of the Stone Age
Another song by Velvet Revolver from Libertad
An original song composed and performed by Slash of Velvet Revolver.
Concerning other bands, Huang also stated in an interview, "We've got a lot of songs and artists still that we would love to have. In particular, we've been trying to get Metallica, AC/DC, and Led Zeppelin. So hopefully sometime in the near future, my wish and everybody's wish will come true and we can get some of their music in the game.

I dont think that Rock Band is going be a success 'cause its so EXPENSIVE. Its going to be a great game, but GH 3 is so much cheaper. And most of the people have ps2.

Rock Band isn`t expensive - it`s huge. I bet you were to start a real band(as a lead guiatar, for example) you would look for a bassist with his own bass and a drummer who had his own kit, the same with the singer, keyboard player, harp, whatever:) As a separate game+instument or just game+four instruments split in four players - the price is pretty reasonable, imo.

nope, i don't have anybody around here with a 360. it really bums me out too, i wanna play Halo 2 and 3.

anyway, i'm looking forward to GH3, because i'll get to play it, but if i could play rock band, it'd be awesome. i keep thinking about how cool it'd be to play Say It Ain't So doing guitar/vocals. ...unfortunately, i won't be able to do that, unless somebody around me comes into a lot of money soon.

It really pi$$es me off that you can't get a Les Paul with the PS2 version of the game. This makes it appear to me that this could possibly be the last Guitar Hero game available for the PS2. It's as if screwing people over and limiting their choices will force them to buy their over-priced gaming console.

Yeah, that would suck. The PS2 is still selling like mad too.

Has anybody ever seen a USB to PS2 adapter? One that you could plug a USB guitar into and then into the PS2 console? I've looked all over the net and couldn't find one.
