Vinyl Stores

Postby jiiiiimmmy » Fri Dec 26, 2008 12:39 am

I finally got a vinyl player for christmas, so I was wondering if anyone knew an online store that had really good deals for vinyls.
And I'm looking for something that is pretty respectable and legit. If any site does exist.
I know that I could go on ebay or amazon, but I don't want to take my chance with user sold items until I know that there is no other alternative.

Me too. I've had one for a couple years, and the only vinyl I own is Paramore's Riot!. So...

That is a great album. =]

I have had Led Zeppelin IV laying around my house for months, but could never listen too it.
I just got Led Zeppelin Mothership vinyl and Viva La Vida today!
Which I'm really excited about.

I was hoping to find some good deals on White Stripe vinyls.
Especially since there are a lot of collectibles out there for the band.
But so far I have not found any good websites.
That is why I call for the wisdom of the FOF-FF! O.O
.........I can't believe I just said that........
Well, there are a handful of really wise people here anyway....

Your avatar/sig are pretty neat.
Basically just because I love Grrr!

Well, the only place I can think of is the one in my town that's closing :( There are no good record stores anymore... sad but true.

I hate iTunes. You buy music, and you can only use it on ONE computer and ONE iPod.

I'm going to get more vinyls now.

Still. I don't like having digital copies of songs. To me, buying a CD or a vinyl makes it so much better. I burn them to my computer, but it feels so much better to own physical copies.

I believe owning a CD or Vinyl is more personal.
It contains more of the artists personality.
A digital download is just an mp3 (or whatever format have you).
It doesn't have any substance to me.
But of course this is all just my opinion.
Not saying that an mp3 to someone else won't have substance.

I got my We the Kings album today. I was so excited. It's that feeling that your holding a copy of someone else's work. You don't feel that with downloads.

two words: album artwork. :P

I still buy some digital music and stuff, but i always prefer a physical CD.

as far as being on topic goes, i don't know of any sites to buy them (although i KNOW i've seen a site or two that actually had a vinyl section... i just can't remember what it was =/ )

also, what's the difference in sound between a vinyl and, say, a CD? i mean, i know some people say that it's a richer sound on vinyl, but as far as i can tell not everyone agrees, so i'm just curious.

All I can think of is the vinyl's sound more raw and rich (like you said). There is some popping of course, but I don't think it is enough to be annoying.
Other than that it is pretty much the same as a CD.

(Off topic)

I will probably end up doing that.
I was just hoping to find a website that sells vinyls for a really good deal compared to more obvious places.
Kind of like zzounds sells musical equipment, but there is no tax or shipping on any item. Unless you live in New Jersey. O.o
Or like how Newegg gives you really great prices on computer equipment compared to most places.

I know of a few online vinyl stores, but they sell pretty much only metal (and mostly underground metal at that).

http://metaldisc.com/prodpage.cfm?CFID=15241960&CFTOKEN=69208423
http://www.theomegaorder.com/
https://www.cmdistro.com/index.aspx
http://www.plastichead.com/
http://www.redstream.org/
http://www.supernalmusic.com/
http://www.moribundcult.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc

Note: some of these stores, particularly the last couple, take a very long time to ship their stuff.

For non-metal, you might find these useful:

http://www.musicstack.com/
http://www.insound.com/
http://music.barnesandnoble.com/u/music-new-vinyl-lps/379000101/
http://www.soundstagedirect.com/?gclid=CImqspnw35cCFQMCagod6yVMCg <-- Good selection here, probably your best bet.

Hope that helps a little bit.
