Some things that might help:

disable_vsync = 1
cpu_saver = 0

The CPU saver causes EOF to sleep a certain amount each time the logic runs. This is good for keeping EOF from using up all the CPU processing time (Allegro likes to eat up all the CPU time). Unfortunately I can't calibrate this number automatically so you must find the right setting for your computer manually. Setting it to 0 means EOF will use all the CPU the the OS will give to it.

VSync should be disabled for most people, it just wastes CPU time waiting for the vertical retrace to restart so it can draw without shearing. Disabling it will save CPU time and probably won't make any noticeable graphical difference.

I don't remember when this happened, but it seems that by default, the controller buttons are no longer pre-mapped. You can map them with File>Controllers>Guitar (for guitar tracks) and File>Controllers>Drums (for drum tracks).

I think I just got a REALLY AWESOME idea. =P

There should be an option to enter a certain amount of time at the beginning of a song. What would happen would be it would mark the spot on the board where you would move the beginning of the board to (where you get that big black space when you move the first beat marker). You'd open the song in Audacity, and get the tinker as close as you can to the first note of the song,record the time it's at, and then enter it into EOF, where it would mark the spot you move it to and you move it, easily syncing the very first note of the song.

Thoughts?

Yes I know you would have to beat sync it. But you could do that AFTER you get the first note on time.

It's not really like syncing the first note is difficult anyway?

It's still easier to just do it in EOF. Click and drag the first beat marker, play with metronome to test. Repeat as necessary. The only way I could see Audacity being any help at all is if you had separated audio stems, because then you could look at a waveform graph. Even if you have a millisecond time for the first note, you can already just open the chart's song properties and manually type in the chart's delay value.

Err, I think the MIDI Import is still broken with dB charts.
