I was reading https://www.fretsonfire.org/cgi-bin....84;st=0
and decided to try implementing flame sprites for the notes in FoF myself.

so far I've managed to make it display two sprites in place as a flame..

This is actually using two files, not just the one file originally available with FoF. I've got a "glow.svg" and an originally named "glow2.svg" now :)

I was wondering if anybody with a copy of guitar hero, and the right know-how could rip the flame images off of the disc? I've got no idea how hard that would be, but my little mod would work nicer with proper images, instead of my crappy flames :p

Very cool. Got a download for it yet? I dont own GH2, so i dont know if you can just pop in into the computer and find the animation. I doubt it though. Otherwise if anyone has a modded ps2 that would be worth a go. I'm not sure how else you could get it off the disc.

I'll be releasing it soon ;)

I think it will be possible to get resources from the GH2 disc, because originally, Guitar Zero used textures ripped from GH2.

offtopic: man the forums are being slow tonight.

Thanks for those seafoo, are you sure they're the ones from GH2 .. they look dodgy in game.

I wouldn't be pursuing this if it weren't for you :p

anyhow, I've implemented them, and further messed with the code..

:) Yea, I took those files directly from the Guitar Hero 2 disc. They were originally .tex files, but I converted them over to .png to save a bit of hassle. I -think- that the second flame in my above post is the one that grows then alpha blends out, and the first image is a part of an animation. That's just a guess though.

The screenshots look like it is coming along nicely. Just remember, it will be difficult to get it looking like the GH version due to factors such as a lack of particle system and the different angle of which the fretboard is viewed. But from what I see, its looking pretty good.

Keep it up, and don't drink and script. :p

I would LOVE this!
Judging by the last preview pic, you should make them big enough to cover the surface of the fret.

I'm working on making new fret models :p

Already made some models in the correct shape, but need to figure out how to do mesh's in blender, and if i can use baked textures in FoF.

I have a question.

How will this affect game performance? For many, performance is still a problem. (not for me, can't wait for flames :))

Sig disabled. ~nwru
