You can download a 30 day trial of max from their site. Never heard of gmax so Ive no idea, and if you only want to use Blender then you can import them straight into there. I just use max cause im not familiar with Blender in the slightest.
Btw, if you can get geometry to work then please let me know, it might be a problem with the plugins on my machine or something, cheers.

Gmax is Autodesks free version of 3dsMax it's the same thing with alot less features lol.
EDIT: No gmax collade import/export script yet. Someone is working on one though. I might just download the 3dsMax demo until then.

Notes - notes.dae
Keys - key.dae (but I cant get anything to show when I open this)
song select screen cassette - cassette.dae
theyre all in the data folder. Once the models are in then the time taken to model stuff would vary dramatically on what I made. I reckon I could knock up a reasonable person holding a guitar in a couple of days, depends on the detail really and whether or not textures will work. Things are a bit limited with it running XML files, so no nice shading effects as far as I know.
Im not really thinking about that atm, just wanting to be able to mod the 3d stuff thats already in there.

I can't get anything to show when I open the key.dae file either. At the top right of the screen it says something about loading the nodes, but nothing happens. That's alright though, I'm fine with the way the keys look, it's just the notes that really bother me.

Yup. I already did once and they told me to make sure I exported the files as *.dae files with polygons, not triangles. Other than that its all guesswork. They didnt know why the keys file wouldnt show. (Make sure you're using Collada 1.4 aswell).
The only help they offered with the crashes was to check the log file which frankly hasn't helped me at all so far.

Is this a light at the end of the tunnel?!........
...Probably not, but I've been able to mod the original note geometry (ie just scale it in the Z axis) using Blender and the game doesnt crash when using it (see below). So, all this can mean is that there is either a materials problem, or that there is code elsewhere in the program which will not allow other geometry to show. Still, there's hope I guess -_-
