I remember hearing that there have always been problems with complex tails in linux. A simple "fix" is to go into the GH3 theme folder and delete the "tails" folder. The tails won't look as good as they should, but they will work.
As a matter of curiosity, would it have something to do with string concatenation? In my knowledge it's the only example of string concatenation in loading a file. Just a theory I came up with.

If I may give my opinion on the cheating aspect... I play with Sloppy/Normal or Sloppy/Wide (Sloppy doesn't work with beta3 even though the game did call me a cheater for having the option turned on xD) simply because I like getting good hit percetages in solos... I don't really care about score as long as I play good enough to get 5 stars (even though I like to compare my runs with other people's playing on the same settings). My point is that I prefered the pre-beta3 settings which let you play as you wanted and still counted your score as valid and uploaded it.

Just curious,
Matt!

It has felt like the drum fills don't start early enough on some songs. I want to go straight into playing a fill but have to pause myself. If this what you mean? Might be a tiny bug.

Yes, it might be. Please explore this issue further, any experimentation results will be helpful; I will solve the problem when I have time this weekend.

Chris,

I'll play with it later. I know that if I am playing on beat, and I play on beat through the fill, I will almost always come out of the fill out-of-sync. I'll report back...

Later,

Matt!
I'm happy with my Ion Rocker kit and Roland KD-8 double bass kick trigger!

Is someone going to make the GH2 sloppy users actually able to have a score screen?
It still just pops up that stupid "CHEATER!" one, and you cant even get a score screenshot.

I think the best to do about this "cheated scores" thing is: weight total song score according to the hit window, cheats enabled, etc. used to get that score.

I mean, for example, lets say you play a song with standard hit window, GH2 (non sloppy) and no Jurgen help and get 100.000 points, But if you play the same song with wide hit window or using Jurgen's help, then you get 100.000 x 0,8 = 80.000 points. And if you play it with a tight hit window you may get a bonus 100.000 x 1,2 = 120.000.

That will keep things fair enough in online scoring, old "non-cheating" scores will be somehow comparable with new "cheated" ones. This also will be a push for playing better, if you want a better score you should set a tight hit window or send Jurgen home...

If this score penalties get implemented, we should rename "cheats options" to "handicap options" ... and stop calling people using that options "cheaters" at score screen, instead they will be given a score-penalty.

This would be usable as those settings can be stored in scores_ext, ho/po system and v.bpm is allready stored. I'm not sure what is stored exactly right now though. Also I mentioned this a page or two back.

Please reproduce the problem and then share the fretsonfire.log file with us. Otherwise, I have no idea how to help :)

BTW, I like the option of changing some of the cheats to "handicaps" with score penalties (or bonuses, in the case of ultra-tight hit windows and GH2 Strict and that sort of difficulty up kinda thing)... this would work with the current system, require no changes on the world chart (except checking for the correct minimum version of FoFiX before accepting a score), and make everyone happy (which I've been told is impossible).

Obviously full Jurgen should still be a cheat... but GH2 Sloppy, wide and up hit windows, no fail, Jurgen Assist / auto kick, etc - should each shrink the score (so multiple handicaps result in a terrible score).

If this was suggested before I apologize for not recognizing the idea; this is the first time I've understood what was suggested. (edit: keep in mind I've been working overtime and may not have been completely cogent when reading posts...)

Yes, and it's done in the latest alphas. For now if it's that bad, roll back to beta 2 and wait for the next version.

I reckon it is impossible, but this way sounds like it will make the majority of people happy.
I also think that while this way doesn't require world chart code changes, it would be good to still somehow display the handicaps with which the scores were achieved.
There's a PC rhythm game named Osu! which does something similar [http://osu.ppy.sh] and it might be a good thing to look at how they do their system to get some ideas. They don't have an online chart as such and the online rankings are displayed in-game for ranked songs. If I wasn't on a mac at work, I'd post some screenshots.

Agreed; however, I always think along the path of how best to code things. We can start by just scaling scores based on settings. Then, as a separate issue and revision, we can begin silently providing this information to the world charts. Then it can be decoded by the world charts whenever the code is updated.

Anyway, bedtime.

No problem! ... in fact death_au first mentioned how this game "Osu!" use variables scores according to mods, and Azzco agreed and suggested small % variations.... then I felt that the whole idea needed a little bit more elaboration... then posted. I'm sorry guys, I should have mentioned your posts as source of inspiration

Lol, not a problem. I'm glad it was made more clear.
